advice with training my puppy!

Ok I'm new to this so bare with me,
I just got my puppy on sunday this is his 3rd day being home with me and my partner! This is my first dog of my own, I had a lot to do with my mum and dads dog when they got him at 8 weeks!
Dink is a daschund x jackrussel just 7 weeks today
I have been training him to the puppy pads and he is doing quite well with it, can I start house training when he hasn't had any injections?
Also the problem I am having is that he seems to have taken a real bond with me and keeps running to me and wanting to sleep on and with me, he won't really have anythin to do with my partner!
I'm also finding it hard with training him to sleep in his bed in the cage coz he wines and cries and I feel so bad/guilty! I have started shutting him in the cage for a about 20 seconds todayand ill keep doin that couple of times a day building up! giving him a treat when he went in and a treat when I let him out, anyone any advice? I'm just so worried when I go back to work he is going to take so badly to being alone! possibley I am far too soft and he knows it..

Any advice welcome.. Thank you x

Re: advice with training my puppy!

oh bless, he's very young yet, really you had him too early, for such little pups 8 weeks is plenty early enough. I suggest you buy Gwen Bailey's 'The Perfect Puppy' it's really useful. Yes you can house train your pup as long as you've got a garden of your own as it's unvaccinated dogs you need to be aware of, your own garden and friends whose dogs are friendly and healthy are fine to meet your babe - in fact you need to sensure he's socialised. The crate should be seen as a place where nice things happen, somewhere to go when you're tired and sleepy, not yet for when you're full of beans and need to play :-) Good luck with your puppy - very exciting
