Lightbulb request for a new sub-forum?...

2 other members *have just suggested we have a new sub-forum, Humane Training, for those who do not
want to use or even discuss shock, choke, or prong collars, nor use harsh handling or intimidation, etc.

i think this would help enormously in reducing pointless arguments, & ease tensions greatly.
hoping,
- terry

Re: request for a new sub-forum?...

I think that would be a good idea. I saw another forum that had a section for shock collar trainers to stop arguments I think.

Great Terry, but how you going to keep the sadists out? They seem to post everywhere else just to cause trouble.

Re: request for a new sub-forum?...

Thanks Terry, great suggestion. I would feel better about posting if I'm not going to be shot down in flames each time or told I need to hurt my dog to achieve anything. I would like to give suggestions about the humane ways of training have worked for me but I find this difficult due to confidence issues.
Hope it is accepted.

The idea was I think to offer to moderate it ourselves. Reporting posts and correcting misleading posts with rebuttals takes much longer than policing an area would. There might need to be liasion between those modding the stricter policed sub-forum, and other parts of the site, if banning from a specific sub-forum is not feasible with the software.

Then some civilised discussion could be had, say a trainer who used an aversive method was looking to employ a feasible R+/P- alternative, that would be reasonable. At present that's not possible, because of the desire by those promoting aversive methods to rubbish proven positive techniques which work for large majority of pet owners who attend classes for example and are generally adhered to by those in popular performance dog sports like Agility, as well as working service dogs.

Many who read DT&B are very fed up of the breaches of civilised debate and harrasment, that's been a feature since early April. Increased by the arrival here, of ppl known to be banned by very many other forums.

The sub-forum would work better than a social group like one just begun, because then we can have stickies, have it openly readable to all be accessible to posting, but ensure arguments are argued in a respectful way; by having forum regulars moderate it. As it is, some forum members choose to personalise things, post defammatory material, insults, belittling, mockery in immature ways; pursuing agendas like a militant pressure group, rather than a discussion group.

DT&B - Glossary of acronyms & jargon terms.
Encouraging good behaviours, whilst consistently avoiding practise of bad alternatives leads to extinction of the bad. So if dog sits 6/10 times it doesn't sit 4/10 times, encouraging with the right rewards (positively-reinforcing) enough for 9/10 times means it now fails to sit only 1/10 times, sit 10/10 means...

Re: request for a new sub-forum?...

have put a link in the mod section for discussion, although self modding probably won't be a go. There are other advantages to this to be discussed and of course any disadvantages. Will let you know what Mark and team decide.....Jill

Re: request for a new sub-forum?...

I wholeheartedly support this suggestion as well.

We are all fed up of being unable to discuss non-coercive methods without the thread being taken over by those with a penchant for e collars and prong collars.
