We asked months and months ago about this before we ( I say we I mean Jo) did any sales on here! Jo offered to pay to do sales and advertise and she was told there was no need. If that changes we are happy to pay!

As sue said I've done a course ran by the inland revenue, so I hope that is a clue to how we are doing things properly!

Janice thanks for the charming rep! Now I know what Jo means! :O

Re: Banning technicalities

In my eyes nothing is black and white there are lots of gray areas, hence the different amount of ban times. Say someone has had a 1 day ban and the rules have been broken instead of 2 weeks we only give 1 week because although the rules were broken it wasn't a biggy. Thats why we discuss things. i haven't commented on this thread as I have taken a bit of time for myself call it reflection, but in my wisdom I decided that right now I am thinking with my heart more than my brain....That is not impartial enough for me

I can see this. I sell musical instruments for a living and have quite a fan club on a certain music forum. If someone comes onto that forum asking opinions about something we don't sell, I don't start rubbishing that brand and saying my brand is better, I give my honest opinion and, at most, if I really do think the proposed purchase is a bad idea, I might say "you might also look at other brands, I think you could probably do better for the money". Most of the time I don't even go that far. If someone asks opnions on my brand I say nothing at all unless the question is purely technical. If someone asks for several brands in a price range I will list all the ones I knwo including my own but giving no value comment, I might say "this brand tends to be quite bright in tone" or "this brand tends to be rather dark", making it clear that both options are perfectly acceptable and the issue is one of preference. Because I behave like that, I am able to stay on a forum where the publicity is worth hundreds of pounds a year in terms of what advertising we would have to do elsewhere to obtain comparable exposure. I am very very careful on that forum!

Ohhh! I really don't like breeders selling via the forum I find it so very wrong, using it as a place to suck up, be nice & sell kittens! If they were good breeders they wouldn't 'tounge in cheek' sell via a forum!

Anyhow, soz if a tad off topic, just bumping my gums!

Banning should be completely based on the forum guide lines / rules, what has been said, prior warnings etc along with mods disgression.

Re: Banning technicalities

I had to really think about whether or not I would contribute to this thread, especially after seeing my username mentioned in one of the posts.

Apart from one instance where I really couldn't help myself (as I was laughing at a joke), I stepped away from the thread and thought it over. I also slept on it too which usually helps.

I haven't anything to add about the banning technicalities, except to say that the rules about using the forum etc. were posted by Mark in 2009, and as he is the Admin and Owner, and this is his private forum, I try to stick to them. I view the moderators as his chosen staff of volunteers whom he has assessed as capable and responsible to see through his wishes for the forum, and I do not question his or their decisions. If there comes a time in the future when I feel that I do not like the way he chooses to run his forum, I might consider finding a different 'home on the internet', in the same way that if I did not like my boss at work I might look for another job. That's my personal thoughts on the matter of how the moderators go about administrating the forum. I think they do a terrific job given the circumstances, and rather than serve them a handful of questions in the public domain, I would rather serve them with a huge applause and much praise for the long hours that they put in here, all voluntarily for the greater good of the community I might add.

On a personal level, my name has been put forward as someone who was intentionally insulting to an individual member on a thread. I'd like to state that at no time was that an intention, and after having re-read the thread in the 'cold light of day' I form the opinion, that whilst the content of my posts may read as emotionally charged, that I am satisfied within myself that I did not singularly direct my emotions or thoughts at any one particular member of this forum. I take the amount of 'likes' on those posts to be evidence of the same, not from any 'allies' on the forum but from other members, like myself, who have noticed an increasing trend to isolate newer members, whether by accident or design.

In my experience of working with others, we cannot blame another person for our own reactions. I believe this extends to life in the 'online media' too. We choose to write our own words, and we choose to press 'submit'. Nobody can 'make you do' such a thing, and it does not matter, in my opinion, if your response or reaction is 'truthful', 'informed' or based around a superior knowledge or education than another person/poster; if it is delivered in a rude, condescending or possibly hurtful manner, it says more about the content of your heart than your head.

As a side note and more personal message, I'd like to say to Jo's husband that I have been in business for a very long time and I have many staff, premises and much experience with business, tax and self-employed issues. I wish you both the very best of luck with your new venture, and if you ever need advice about these types of things I will gladly offer to help on here where I can, no matter how 'silly' or 'trivial' the question might seem. We all have to start somewhere when learning new things.

Thanks for reading guys.

Re: Banning technicalities

Hi All,

Think I will close this thread as the originally answer has been answered. We as mods of petforums try the best we can to moderate the forum as fairly as possible and to follow a certain set of rules as best as we can do.

Thanks

Oh ok then, just she was the only mentioned in relation to selling on this thread and it sounded like you were directly addressing that
