Suggestion: what a mod does
Hiya, I thought that with all the grief mods tend to get for having an opinion/taking time to close a thread/taking time to respond to a report and so on, so forth, that a sticky telling people exactly what a mod does would maybe help people understand that you can't be everywhere at once. I know MoM posted somewhere about what you guys generally do but 1) I can't find it and 2) it would just have to be repeated everytime someone had a go. Just a suggestion

Re: Suggestion: what a mod does
It's simple.
On Petforum, the mods are unpaid volunteers made up of regular members. They are just like you and I, except they have access to the "move, close, delete and edit" buttons. Sometimes, they use them to stop the forum becoming one big dissing thread. It's much nicer to have lots of smaller closed ones. ![]()

Re: Suggestion: what a mod does
As a MOD (on other sites), I see it this way.
First and foremost, MODS are members. They are entitled to post and have opinions if they see fit (and somehow find the time) I've always had my MOD hat sitting at my side but posted as a member and enjoyed the forum. I only pick up and don the hat for three reasons. 1. When help is needed. I absolutely love those times. Nothing to me is more rewarding than helping a member when they need it. 2. Site maintenance. Cleaning up threads and watching for (and taking care of) spammers. Not quite as rewarding but it makes the environment nice for the members and a place they enjoy being at. 3. Bannings Hate this part to be honest. I try to be fair and give warnings in hopes that the member will take a breath and play within the rules. Unfortunately, some people just can't do that. A MOD is a member tasked with extra duties to keep the forum running smoothly. Nothing more. If more people realized this, less troubles would come to handling day to day tasks and the job would be a hell of a lot less stressful. |

Most tend to view the task as something that needs to be handled as.....professionally....... as possible.

Re: Suggestion: what a mod does
Mods are good
But why they stay I've no idea Without much pay. The crap they get One big head-ache Do they regret The role they take? They can't fun With all the rest There's always one Who will protest They wish they could be Just a member Fonder times They do remember But when all Is said and done They're needed here By everyone Especially When there is boredom Way down in The cat chat forum. ![]()
