HELP! Bubble nest problem!
Hey PetForums members,
I have three male bettas - Zaar, Ozzy and Walter. They are kept in a 10 (?) gallon tank with dividers, obviously. They can see each other clearly, but only occasionally flare. Zaar is dark blue with red fins. Walter is light blue with a few red stripes. Ozzy is intensely red throughout his whole body.
I've had them for about three months, and nothing strange happened - they were eating normally, behaving normally throughout water changes etc.
I noticed about a week and a half ago, when Zaar was on the right side, Ozzy in the middle, and Walter on the left, that Zaar was making a rather impressive bubble nest. At first, I wondered if he was marking his territory, but now I have dismissed that idea. I think now that he thinks that Ozzy and Walter are female bettas. I researched it further, and found out that when a male betta makes a bubble nest, it is sign that he wants to breed. I panicked then, because I don't have the money, time or resources to start breeding yet. I tried changing a couple of things, like moving Walter into the middle, which resulted in Zaar stopping his bubble nest, but starting again in 3 days. I started changing the water more often, and then less often, without any noticeable changes. I was wondering what to do now. I was thinking of breeding bettas, but I think it would be the most expensive option.
Please comment on what you think would be the right thing to do.
Cheers,
Finn
