Hello all,
I was just wondering whether anyone could advise me on something. I am now on my 4th batch of babies - the first batch only consisted of 2 which I spotted in my tank one day - they are now in the big tank, the 2nd batch was only 4 babies all of which have got their colours now, the third batch consisted of around 25ish and yesterday morning my female platy gave me my 4th batch which is around 27ish. I was wondering how big the babies need to be before they can go into the main tank - at the moment the 2nd, 3rd and 4th batches are in breeding tanks floating on the top of the main tanks.
How big do they need to be before they can go into the main tank without having problems such as being too small and getting sucked into or stuck to the filter.

Any help is much appreciated. xx

Can nobody help me? I dont want to put the babies into the main tank until I am sure they'll be ok xx

depends what fish you have in the tank. obviously, the bigger the fish you have in there, the more likely they are to be eaten. if you tell us what you have, and size of the tank, then we should be able to help

The tank that the babies will be going into has nothing else in there it is just for them. I just dont want them to get stuck to the filter. Thanks

then id probably wait till they are about 1cm long excluding the tail. at that size, the parents probably wont eat them, and they should be strong enough to avoid the filter

Hi, I had the same problem as you, I am on my 2nd batch of fry, the first was only 4 and the 2nd was 30.
I was told to wait until they were almost an inch before I can sell them to the pet shop so I assume thats when I can put them in the big tank.

I work on if it fits in the mouth it lunch but my fry stay away from the filters main flow and I've got at least 50 fry swimming round my tank at mo from a day or two to 3weeks old
