Re: Moving

earlier this year, i moved about a mile up the road, and took my aquariums with me, and this is basically what i did.

i emptied the tank of decorations (live plants i threw away cos i wanted to start from scratch with them), and bogwood/rocks i took out and washed. i then got some fish bags from where i work (most aquarium shops will give you them if you explain and ask), caught the fish and put them into the bags. one thing that is vitally important is to save as much water as you possibly can. and for this reason, you will need a lot of buckets, preferably covered ones. i drained the tank into my buckets, and then took the sand out into a big heavy duty rubbish bag.
it took several car journies, but starting with the tank itself, and the stand, i took everything down with me, and assembled it back at the other end. the filters were the main problem, as you cant have them deactivated for very long, so, between journies, i left them running in buckets of water from the tank they came from.
for me, everything went well, and i didnt loose any fish. i think that as long as you save as much water as you can, and dont turn the filters off for long periods, then it should be ok.

Re: Moving

cool thank you! Only moving 5 mins down the road and we moving into my mum's old house, so aren't in a rush to get everything moved all in one day. Will probably do the fish first.

Re: Moving

Would the fish be okay in a bucket with a lid? We're going to move them this weekend

Re: Moving

that would be fine for them, and prevent any spillages on the journey! as long as they arnt gonna be in there for long, as a sealed bucket will loose oxygen within a few hours.

Re: Moving

the moving of the tank has probably just disturbed some sediment in the gravel, which has been kicked out into the water column. gravel can get surprisingly dirty, though you dont see it. also, if youve wahsed or disturbed the filters, then they could be throwing out some gunk. it should clear itself up within a few hours, a day or two max. just keep an eye on your water parameters, and perhaps do a small water change, and it should be fine!

Re: Moving

I want to move to a new town/city and renting, mostly because the jobs where Iive low paying etc. I have a place in mind but i dont know anyone who lives there. how do I go about moving without a job, I have to move by winter. How do you go about this? the place is good distance away that i cant just drive there and secure a job in one day and then hope for a apartment right away. Any advice/suggestions/experiences :-So I hate the fact that you have to get put on a waiting list, then you cant get the times of getting a job and moving in to line up...............
