Inspiration for an 85L tank

Hi again. Thanks in no small part to the advice of the folks on here the goldfish, wcmm and remaining loach are nicely settling in to their big new tank.
We have been given an 85L tank for free! We said yes as I am physically incapable of saying no to free things... but are now wondering what to do with it. I'm not too fussed wether it becomes a cold water or tropical tank as long as it is something interesting. When the big coldwater tank is done being set up and the little old tank is sorted we will have:

Large tank coldwater tank:
1 ryukin fancy goldfish
1 black moore
1 hillstream loach
5 white cloud mountain minnows
5 danios
1 blue oranda
1 apple snail

Betta tank:
Does what it says on the tin. 1 male Betta

Little tropical tank: (35L, inhabitants not yet set in stone - these are just suggestions)
4 male guppies
5 neon tetras
3 cherry shrimp

Ideally I'd like to put something in the 85L that we have never had before. However wacky or weird the suggestion, wether it's a large group of fish or just the one character whatever you can think of would be great! And yes I know the size of the tank limits us a lot but come on.... could you resist a freebie?

Oh and 2 last quick questions. Does anyone know where you can buy ammonia in the UK? The guy at p@h looked terrified when I asked and kept trying to give me ammonia remover.... apparently he'd never heard of fishless cycling (to be fair neither had I until fiarly recently however I'm not trying to sell fish to people). And whilst we're at it, large bottles of tap water dechlorinater? (fairly sure the piddly little bottles from p@h won't last long with all those tanks and it's not very economical to keep buying them...)

Re: Inspiration for an 85L tank

Ooh! Well done on getting a free tank! Why does no one ever give me free things like that??

I'm not very good at giving suggestions on what fish you might like to get, but as for the ammonia, I'm pretty sure you can get it in Homebase? Possibly??

And try looking for pond dechlorinator - it comes in much bigger bottles than the aquarium stuff, and you don't have to use much of it so it lasts ages!

Re: Inspiration for an 85L tank

You'd be amazed at what people are giving away on sites like gumtree Check them out. This one (through the works intranet in this case) came with a load of gravel, the light fitting, some ornaments, a decent lid and a stand. It needs some minor repair work (on the the horizontal pieces of glass the lid rests on has come lose but the actual tank itself seems solid) but no complaints here! All that in exchange for a box of chocolates!

I will keep an eye out for pond dechlor. Good tip

A couple of people on another forum (what can I say, I'm a forum tart) have suggested dwarf puffers. A lot more research would need to be done before I even consider buying them. A little confused about how I would go about breeding snails for them to eat...
