best time to test water

how soon after a water cange can i test for ammonia,
as mentioned in another post my ammonia levels have spiked, i am franticly trying to get this under control and have done a 50% water change about 10mins ago is it to soon to check the levels?

Test just before you do the water change, theres no point testing a 50% mix of tapwater.

Assuming that your tap water is 0ppm ammonia. If for example your tank water is 5ppm ammonia then after a 50% water change it will be 2.5ppm
