i could cry

i'e been keeping tropical fish for 4yrs and i am slowly starting to restock my tank,
on friday i brought 6 guppies, and was told that they were all pregnant, i had checked all my levels and they were all fine, i have been really careful with the amount off food i have3 fed them and hae been watching them carefully
but yesterday i checked the water and found the ammonia levels through the roof, i have started the 25% water change daily, is there anything else i can do to help these fish, Its a long time since i have had an ammonia spike. could it be cos i moved the tank two days before i brought the fish.

any help or advice greatfully reseaved,

Re: i could cry

Cut out the food completely, a lack of food won't kill them, the ammonia will. Also, step up the water changes to 50% daily to bring the ammonia back down to the safe level.

How long has the tank been established for?

the tank has been established for 4yrs it is my first and only tank,

ty i will increase the water changes to 50% i was worried that doing so would stress them even more.

fingers crossed, toes and everything else that i can bring it back to safe levels before i lose any fish,

Don't worry about that, the effects of ammonia poisoning are far more deadly than any water change.
