Is this ok?

I have an Aquastart 320 which I believe holds 27 litres.

In it I have bubbles, small filter (not under gravel filter), 2 threadfin rainbow, 6 spotted blue eyes and 3 mountain minnows. Bog wood, a couple of small stone/rocks and a few plants.

It doesnt look over crowded and the fish are all small peaceable community fish using top middle and bottom of the tank.

I found a chart online a while ago that said how many inches of fish for the area of tank and was well within the limits (could add a few more). Now that I have added the minnows, I cant find the chart and looking at fish per litres, I now have too many

Re: Is this ok?

The tank is more what you could call heavily stocked, rather than over stocked. Extra maintenance should keep the water quality stable.

Stocking guidelines are exactly that, they aren't to be taken literally and I choose to ignore them, instead I base stocking densities on the size of fish and the amount of space they need, either for swimming or to establish territories. A bit of guesswork helps.

Re: Is this ok?

Phew, thanks Luke, I was kind of hoping you would say something like that.

I do small weekly water changes and sift the grit while I'm at it. Then when its all settled get the gunk out of the filter.

My take on it was that they are all small fish producing small amounts of waste, all fairly easy going and there are enough nooks and crannys for a bit of time out

Thanks for your help
