Just wondering how long I should leave it before I can get some new fish for my tank??
My corys have only been in a week and a half and I have done a 20% water (although all the levels are still reading 0 when I tested beforehand). Also the fish seem really happy, even one that looked a little slow when I bought it.

Also how many to get?? I dont want to overload the tank but I know fish like tetras/danios/barbs do better in groups and get stressed with just a couple..
I dont mind waiting for more fishies and am enjoying watching the ones Ive got but Im thinkin' ahead!LOL

Also, can you believe Ive only had to clean about 3 blobs of algae off the tank once in about 8 weeks!!! The light is left on about 12hours too!!

I'd leave it for another week before adding more. When it comes to introducing small fish such as barbs or tetras, it is better to add them in groups of six, slowly building up the shoal to the desired numbers.

The reason as to why your algae growth is minimal is due to the low bioload in your tank, some species of algae require excess nutrients to flourish.

This tank is so different from my last experience. That was 2 goldfish in a sterile plastic planted tank that was permanantly green, like smog!LOL
Much prefering fish keeping now I know abit better what Im doing.

All live plants will pull nutrients from the water, along with macro-nutrients such as Magnesium, Nitrogen and Iron. However, the speed at which they take in these nutrients (either from the substrate or the water) will depend on other factors such as CO2, light intensity and the 'normal' rate of stem growth.
