Done something a bit mental!

Ive been naughty.... please dont shout at me but i got some neon tetras and put them in with our crayfish.
I was watching them in the fish store and they were so tiny and fast I though no way in hell will he catch them so i got some!

Anyway they have been in the tank for a while, I just popped out and when I returned they were all crowded into his little cave with him and he was just sitting there not bothered at all. He made no attempt to grab them. I'll keep him well fed and hope this good behaviour continues! I did threaten to smack his bum if he ate any of our new fish.. maybe he heard me

Keep all eyeballs in the house on that crayfish, because that crayfish is gonna get rather partial towards those tetras...

Re: Done something a bit mental!

Dont worry, ive been watching him!

Just counted them this morning and we have all 10 still.

I read that the crayfish is most likely to strike in the dark as the fish cant see and he has his feelers so when i turned the tank lights off last night i left a lamp on so that the tank isnt completely pitch black. Will it do the fish any harm to have constant light though (lamp isnt bright, lighting is still very dim in the tank just not pitch dark)??

I hope you arent right, so far so good. The fish swim round as normal and Eric doesnt pay any attention to them as long as he has his veggies and pellets.

Obviously i will keep my eye on them.

Re: Done something a bit mental!

Think of it this way, as soon as the Crayfish finds out that the tetras are far meatier than his usual meals, he will start taking them out one by one.

Why take a salad if there's a steak on offer?
