Goldfish Dieing

Last week we had 2 goldfish but sadly one of them died. We have no idea why he would have died and now the other one is floating on its side at the top of the water. It is still breathing but not swimming. Whats happening???

Re: Goldfish Dieing

Before we can help, we'll need more info on the tank. You'll need to provide us some info on the size, filtration type and whether or not the filter has been cycled.

A set of test results for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate will also be needed. In 90% of cases, disease is due to poor water quality. In adequate water conditions is a major cause of stress, which lowers immune systems and leaves the fish open to infection by pathogens.

Do you have fancy or common goldfish? The former are more prone to internal problems - particularly swimbladder defects - due to their more compact bodies. Vital organs including the swimbladder are forced into a much smaller space because of this. Genetic problems are also rife amongst fancy strains, and the diet needs to be varied to avoid problems such as chronic bloat.

Re: Goldfish Dieing

Just what Chilly says. we need more information fish can die for many many reasons, so we just need to know some stuff before we can start narrowing it down. we need to know at least the size of the tank, whether its filtered, and whether the tank was cycled (how long you left it before adding the fish). test results for at least ammonia and nitrITE are also needed, preferably nitrATE and PH as well.

if you can give us as much of the information as possible, im sure we will be able to help you
