Teeny Fish tank

Heya, my housemate has bought a tiny 5L tank and I figured I'd ask some advice for him.
He only wants to get one or two fish (I'm thinking a Siamese Fighter if he gets a heater? Or do they need more room?)

Anyone know where he could get a reliable teeny heater?
What coldwater fish would be suitable?

Really basic questions I know, but it's so hard to trawl through all the crap on the web and everything contradicts everything else.

xx

Re: Teeny Fish tank

Seriously, codemn this coffee jar to the nearest convenient waste receptacle...

A five litre tank is too small for any fish, full stop. A single Siamese fighter will need a filtered and heated five gallon tank, which is the equivalent of approximately 25 litres. Ignore any spurious claims that Bettas can live in tiny, unfiltered and unheated containers.

The most common 'coldwater' fish that are marketed for indoor aquariums are Goldfish and White Cloud Mountain minnows. Neither are suitable for a tank this small and Goldfish most certainly aren't, due to their size.

If your friend absolutely insists on putting something in there, try one or two Cherry shrimp and a single, low-growing species of live plant, such as Java Moss.

Re: Teeny Fish tank

100% what Chilly said. The tank is far too small for any fish. If it has a filter, then it could possibly house some shrimp and plants, but thats about it im afraid. Certainly a siamese fighter wouldnt be very happy in there.

Re: Teeny Fish tank

Thank you!
That's the kind of advice I was after, the web was all 'put anything in it!'
He'll probably want to put something in it though so I'll try and steer him towards shrimp of some form.

Or maybe he could use it as a miniature plant grower? Loads of humidity with the lid (that's just what I would do lol)
Thanks again guys!
