Smile Cucumber!

Hey fellow fishy friends,

I've not been keeping my fish all that long, I'm fairly new to the business....But I am amazed at how much my pleco loves his cucumber!!! Bellers the pleco has had a good 30 minutes now chomping away!!!!!

Does anyone else have any other suggestions as to fun stuff he might like as well as his pleco wafers?

Re: Cucumber!

Lettuce is also good, courgettes and apparently some fish like oranges although I haven't found that! But I love feeding my fish cucumber and courgette to see them eating the inside and leaving that perfect circle of peel!!

Re: Cucumber!

That would be a whole leaf!! Most fish shops sell a little thing that looks like a plastic bull-dog clip specifically for feeding lettuce leaves. You clip your leaf in, then it sticks to the side of your tank so that the lettuce is stationary and doesn't float away as the fish try to eat it. Again - great fun!!

Hi there,

I think sliced cucumber is a great food to give plecs, as my orange spot sailfin plec was chomping away at his all last night!! This morning, even the skin was gone!! I was going to dive in and collect the remnants but there was'nt any!!!

My other fish even took a liking to it, Mollies, platy's, tiger barbs etc, they all had a go!! It's also great fun to watch them happily eating together! Never tried courgette or lettuce yet but atleast for now, I know they will happily devour cucumber!

Re: Cucumber!

I totally agree although Bellers (the pleco) point blank refuses to eat the skin...And when I went in to pull it out....Shimmer my Angelfish decided that it was a great idea to play a little game she likes to call 'Lets nip Mummy's arm and run away'!!!!!

All of the other fish in there enjoy it as well, the platy's and the kribs especially!!!

Not tried the lettuce leaf yet...But am certainly considering giving it a go!!

Re: Cucumber!

I often feed my fish peas. Not the frozen ones but the ones you have to steep before cooking. I take the shells off them before feeding them to the fish. My Midas Cichlid loves them as well as the Pleco.
