Tanks

Hey i am looking for a good fish tank, dont want an overly large one, even second hand. I want one blackmoor and one other fish (it looks like it has a big brain i cannot remember what it was called?)
the lady told me if i had a smaller tank it would limit growth and life span
what is the minimum size tank i should get? she recomended a 3 ft tank but they were £132 help??

Re: Tanks

100 litres minimum with a large external filter stocking very light will be ok.

Re: Tanks

The fish that you are talking about with "the big brain" is an oranda. I agree with the above post you need at least a 100 litres for those fish as goldies grow quite large and they need a lot of fitration as they are poop machines. If you are having trouble paying for a larger tank join up to freecycle and put an advert on asking for a tank you would be suprised at the response and it won't cost you a penny.

Re: Tanks

a 3 foot with a good internal(a juwel maybe) or a large fluval/interpet internal will be fine with the 2 fish as long as you dont mind doing regular water changes(10% a week with a gravel cleaner) could prob get away with a 2.5ft tank if good filtration. I work at an aquatics place and people put them in smaller tanks than that

Re: I think fishes don't like aquariums.

No thanks for cetaceans. No tanks for fishes.
Don't look for tanks for fish.
Save cetaceans from tanks.
What about this:
Lolita Update #107 - Mother's Day Protest Saturday May 10

I would not give you suggestions to keep captive fishes.

Re: Tanks

orandas can reach a foot in length and black moors can reach around 8 inches, so ideally you really should go for a minimum of 3 feet, if you can find a cheap stand (make sure it can bare the weight) a 3 foot tank from a pet shop will cost next to nothing, when i brought mine for my gerbils it was around £40. obviously you will still need the hood, lighting, filter etc but it may be a cheaper way of doing it. whatever tank you get, you will need to make sure you gravel vac and partial water change at least every 2 weeks, especially for goldfish like these as they are poop machines. i agree to advertise on freecycle or such like sites, they are always being given away. good luck
