30L Shrimp Tank before and after

Waited absolutely ages until the water parameters were just right, and then in with 5 Harlequins and a week later 4 RCS.

They seem to get along quite well now, although the fish were at first a bit curious.... even my cat ignores them all !

Love the swimming technique of the shrimps....reminiscent of a Chihuahua being pursued in a swimming pool by a shark, but they do get around !

One question though.....when I bought the shrimp, I noticed that one of them was not only a lot smaller than the rest, but also a lot darker in colour.
This one doesn't appear to have grown at all and the colour is still a very dark shade of red compared to the others. Did I buy the runt of the litter I wonder ?
It's feeding well and trogs around the tank like a good un, so no worries there just wondered !

Before the shrimps moved in ...

Re: 30L Shrimp Tank before and after

It could be a different species of shrimp, or it could be a different sex to the others.

They look like Taiwan Fire Red shrimp or Red Cherry Shrimp to me rather than Harlequins but then I'm only familiar with the saltwater type.

Re: 30L Shrimp Tank before and after

Thanks for your reply, but the Harlequins I mentioned are in fact Rasbora fish, just to keep the shrimpies company on dark evenings !

Re: 30L Shrimp Tank before and after

and the one that was a very much darker shade than the rest sadly passed away within 2 weeks, although all the others are fine and occasionally galloping round the tank, as they do !
