Smile Tell me about Ferrets please.

I have always always wanted a ferret and I am considering getting one this year. But I don't really know anything about them or keeping them. I do know you can put them on leads as someone had one on a train a few years ago

So can you give me some info or websites to look at please?

Thank You.

Re: Tell me about Ferrets please.

The females need to be neutered or they can become seriously ill as they need a castrated male to take them out of there session. Hobs [males] are a bit more smelly more musty. They are very socail, lively playful animals. Although if there upset they can bite to the bone.

Re: Tell me about Ferrets please.

Just to correct you. A castrated male cannot bring a female out of heat, only a vasectomised hob can. Either that or a female would need to have jill jabs to bring her out of heat

Thanks.

Do you have to keep them in pairs or are they ok on their own?

Re: Tell me about Ferrets please.

It's not recommended to keep them on their own, they can get very lonely. They thrive when they have another ferret to play with. When i got my first ferret, he was on his own and when i introduced another ferret soon after, he did so much better. Now i have 4 males living together

Re: Tell me about Ferrets please.

male ferrets can be kept on there own. would you keep the ferret outdoors in a cage? or do you plan on having ferrets as house pets? I dont know why people say they smell so bad, yeah if they arnt looked after properly they will just like any animal! It really annoys me ferrets are fantastic pets.
