Ferrets.

My boyfriend and I are thinking of getting ferrets in the future at some point and I was told that getting one at about 8months or so would be better than a tiny baby, as they are less nippy and if from a chelter such as the RSPCA, then theyve already been around people and pets etc, most of them, and so as a first time ferret owner it would be better. They are still young at that age anyway and always playful. It would be helping the ferrets out rescuing them, and they are 30quid at the RSPCA I heard, which is alot compared to 15quid in other places, but these will be nutured, so it saves you money and hassle.
I got two cats that are about a year just over now who love to play and race around alot. I was told by alot of people who own ferrets that they get on well with cats and dogs.
Can anyone tell me any of their ferret experiences please, and any pics would be great thanks

also wanted to know the difference between a polecat and a ferret please. I know ferrets are related to skunks, weasels, cats, dogs, and otters, but does that depend on colouring? They all have the same temprament dont they?
My boyf wants a masked one, and I want an albino.

Re: Ferrets.

hi we have ferrets have posted pic's in ferrets
most people when they say polecat its the colour to own a real polecat you will not be able to, the masked ferrets are known as polecat,we have 2 also albinoand sandy but here is lots of colourings.
there are meny ferret rescue place's not just the rspca and alot will have them nutured
any ferret can bite at any age but yes a older one there is less chance but if they are raised right from birth they shouldnt bite.

if you google ferret rescue you get loads of places.

Re: Ferrets.

thanks do you have any cats with yours?
I love the polecat ones. Very cute. Trouble is the RSPCA cant pinpoint an exact age on the ferrets there.
They said when we are ready we can come down and have a look. I know its just down the road from me, in ringland somewhere, but not quite sure where lol.

Re: Ferrets.

thanks
i aim to get as much info as possible from every reliable source.
Wont stop me going to take a peek at them at the RSPCA though lol.
I wont get any rabbits. As much as I love them, I dont have a garden.
My cats are a little over a year old, no older than a year and a half. They still run round like crazy in the day and play with each other, but sleep alot in the evenings.

Re: Ferrets.

they are going to be indoor ferrets. I know alot of people that have/had them indoors, and take them out on the lead now and then to their friends to play in the garden etc.
They are very happy and healthy, and like to cuddle up with the cats.
