Re: In a nutshell, what and how often should i feed my ferrets?

there's quite a lot of options. i give mine dry ferret food everyday (which i leave in with them most of the time) and usually a tin of meat (i have to use a whole tin i have a lot of hungry mouths to feed) but for 2 you'd probably be right in giving them half a tin or 1/4 of a tine twice a day. completely depends on how you want to do it. mine also get raw meat, chicken mostly but sometimes rabbit turkey etc.

when i bred i gave new owners the advice of until they're 6 months feed them 3 or 4 times a day (not leaving any food with them) of about a handful of dry (per ferret) and 1/4 tin bringing it down to twice a day leaving dry in but taking wet out especially in the summer when flies are around more. in the winter give them more food because of the cold weather if they're outside.

after a while you'll get used to how much they need, i tend to judge how much food i give them by the weight of them. like right now (while i've been away at uni) they're chubby so i will give them less food now. obviously everyone does it differently this is just the way i do it. i feed them about 8am and then check up on them for play time around 1pm and then go in again about 5/6 depending on time of year i lock up around 10pm in the summer. mine has 2 2 litre bottles of water which i change everyday. mine don't have a hutch they have a large reinforce shelter where they can access exercise whenever they want, by lock up i mean fox proofing which is a big metal sheet across their front window and the door.

what my parents did (i can't deal with dead animals at all - except if its my animals i always bury them, crying of course ) is they cut the stomach open a bit and gave it to them whole, fur and everything. it gives them something to do. you might might want to build a box they can go in but can bring the rabbit out because of flies, that way they can't hide it and attract flies.

Re: In a nutshell, what and how often should i feed my ferrets?

I feed my ferrets with a selection of foods from prize choice as kits I feed them 3-4 times a day a lb of meat each time (depending on litter size) then when the kit is weaned they get fed twice a day then at 8 month ish they get once a day, I always give some dry food with the meat as i like to think if they are still hungry they can eat.

you can feed raw liver (once a week) day old chicks (once a week) they enjoy chicken wings pet mince and dare i say cat food (i do only give this as a treat and I do it for a simple reason, what if the weather is bad and you cant get raw meat? any local shops sell cat meat and the ferrets love it and it wont do them any harm

Re: In a nutshell, what and how often should i feed my ferrets?

am i reading this right you want to know how often to feed your ferrets and what to feed them as well they should be fed daily as well as often

firstly mine dont hunt nor are they bred they get fed 3-4 times a day small meals of mince, chicken, turkey, steak, brisket & scrambled egg (cooked) N.B they dont get all this in one day they have it varied form day-day

if your going to keep ferrets do right by them feed them every day not on a whim or when you remember they are living breathing creatures who need sustenance to survive
ferrets have a short digestive tract therefore like to snack every 3-4 hours if awake
a bit of advice do a bit of research on ferrets then think about getting one or two
ps feed them nothing out of a tin as ferret food doesnt come in tins
