Ferret Colours
I've been browsing the net, and the best images I've found are this
I do hope I'm not breaking any rules.... How would these be accurately described in terms of colour? Are the Sable, or Sable...... Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Ferret Colours
light polecat: (also called Sable or Fitch)
![]() dark polecat ferret: (also called black) ![]() Dark polecat ferrets are usually a hybrid (cross) of a ferret and an EU Polecat (below - undomesticated version of the ferret): ![]() Dark sandy: (sometimes called Chocolate, Siamese or Cinnamon) ![]() Sandy: (sometimes called Champagne) ![]() Silver: (sometimes called Roan) ![]() Silver ferrets often fade out over time and become DEW (dark eyed whites): Albino: ![]() Copper: ![]() Plus, ferrets with white paws are called 'Mitts'. So you can get Polecat Mitt: ![]() Sandy Mitt: (this one also has a bib - white chest markings) ![]() Silver Mitt: ![]() Remember that temprement is more important than colour though! My favourite colour is sandy, but I'm yet to own one. I have a light polecat, a silver, an albino and a dark sandy. |

Re: Ferret Colours
Id say get any colour you like, just make sure that if you do go the kit route get from a breeder who handles their ferrets and kits daily as they are those who breed and dont handle kits and just sell them for £'s and it often ends up where the kits are really nippy. I am not against rescues but will say like any rescue animal you do not know their background.

Re: Ferret Colours
Yeah that is true, I don't say that they don't. But the person getting the ferrets has to be confident at handling otherwise the ferret could start nipping only one of my ferrets I would not trust with strangers and that is Moonshine, she is fine with me but would bite anyone else. Atleast a kit you get to see grow and know its history (from the time you get it onwards) or sometimes more if you choose a dedicated breeder.
