Ferrets and 6 month old pup.

Hi i was wondering if anyone had any advice for us. 2 weeks ago we brought home two gorgeous polecat x ferret jills. Their both 5 months old.

I also have a 6 month old Airedale terrier pup
Pippin (pup) absolutley adores them, the problem is he loves them a little too much. He wants to play all the time. if their out (always highly supervised) he wants to play, and runs about chasing and nosing them, they play back, but after a while his energy gets a bit much for them and they run away.

I dont believe pippin has any harmful intentions toward them, he treats them as he does other dogs and just wants to play (he washes and kisses them).

Id love some tips from ferret owners who have mixed dogs with ferrets!
is it his age? or do all dogs do this and need training to calm them?

Advice would be great

Hi congrats on your new babies I have two jills around 5 months old they love play with my staff when my ferrets have had enough of the dog so I put the dog in the garden or in the kitchen with some toys or if it's the other way round my dog just sits on the back of the couch were the ferrets can't get him your dog will probably calm down abut when he gets used to them hopefully somebody can give you some better advice

Re: Ferrets and 6 month old pup.

can't help i'm afraid but my friends had 2 ferret's, can't tell you what kind though and had 2 alsations, 1 collie, 1 african pygmie hedgehog, 2 cats, all got on really well, when the ferret's got fed-up they went to back door and where put into their 'home'.
i visited a few times and all was well each time i was there.
on 1 occasiion when the ferret's were brought into house, they didn't half stink, i think they were on heat, my goodness, that was something to behold i'll tell you, phew, what a smell.
i know i didn't have any advice but i do hope someone will contact you and give you the advice your looking for, good luck.
