Spay or implant?

Took my Jill to the vets for the jab with a view of spaying her a few months later.

The vet said new research shows spaying is bad for ferrets - well that sucks for Evy who was spayed in Dec???

Anyway, he recommends an implant which last 3 years. I just want your view options on this before I decide, not come across it before and want to make the right choice for April, Thanks.
