OK I found a chicken... yes found in a park near some allotments. Obviously it escaped from the allotments but noone seems to know who it belongs to. I have now had it for 3 days. My husband said he heard it crowing(I have trouble believing this but he is convinced) So going to assume it is a rooster. I don't have any real space for him or the ability to provide a coop so he is currently sleeping in the house on the night and staying in the yard during the day. I got a crate to put him in to keep him safe in the house but this leaves him nowhere to perch if roosters do this? He is into everything in the yard has already destroyed a few of my prized plants but it is ok I should have known....

I have called the council but they didn't seem to care I know people with chickens but I believe they would just cull him if I asked them to take him on as they are the type of people who get battery hens to use for eggs and kill them if they don't lay. I don't want to give him to them.

I don't even know if I am feeding it the right stuff as I went to the pet shop and the guy insisted it was what he needed but I don't think it is enough. The food is wheat and chick feed.

Any ideas suggestions comments will be appreciated as long as they are contructive. Thanks all.

Doing some blog research...if anyone knows of any cool chicken blogs that would be great!!:001_cool:

I'm a designer and I'm doing research on different pets and their characteristics...(I've got cat and chickens, sadly no Staffie anymore) so I know a bit about them! but other breeds I'm not so sure about.
Blogs are really good sources of inspiration because they are not just text book info - they are real life info and give greater insight into different animals traits etc.

looking at cat breeds, dog breeds, ducks...I've even been asked to produce a guinea pig design...

Hi Everyone!

I have a chicken question... I hope someone can help.

My freind had 4 white chickens and they were happy and healthy etc.

Then 2 weeks ago she bought 2 brown chickens and put them all together.

Now the white ones are bullying the new brown ones. Pecking them, scratching them, not letting them near the food etc all the time.

Is there anything she can do to stop it happening?

Thanks
