Hi all, have just joined the site as we recently bought an 18mths old Cairn Terrier. We have had a few problems with a nasty smell more noticeable first thing in the morning. We had him vet checked and his anal glands were emptied and sure enough this was the same smell. He has recently occasionally bit at his back end and tonight for the first time in 12 weeks I caught him dragging his bottom along the floor. If it continues I will be returning to the vets but could anyone please tell me how often these glands can/should be emptied? He is wormed etc and in otherwise good health, not overweight and a fit and happy little dog. Many thanks for any advice.

I have a 13 week old shitzhu pup. Since have had she she has sufferred from blood and mucus in her pooh. A few days of Hills I/D tinned food always does the trick and she has 'normal' poohs. However they vet has said to try her on the dry version of the i/d and the blood and mucus is back. Its exactly the same stuff but dry.... Could it be that she doesnt get on with dry food???

The vet is sure its her food as the only time she suffers is when we start changing her food. How long should i keep trying with the dry i/d??

I dont mind her having a wet diet if thats what suits her but have no idea what the best.

I have to add that she is a really happy pup, plays well and has a halthy coat. Its just this reaccurring problm. Any advice would be really appreciated.xxxx

tripe, beef, chicken, rabbit, lamb (i think), white fish (£1 more), turkey and some other mixed flavours!! a good selection :D

they were all 79p except the fish which was £1.79 or something

no fillers, additives, cereals, colourings or preservatives, just 100% minced up meat in a frozen block!

Kira loves them! :thumbup1:

Dog owner banned from keeping animals after pet dalmatian balloons to 11 stone on crisps and chocolate | Mail Online
look at the seated front-on shot,
the poor dog is so knuckled-over by his own weight, his legs and
paws look like Q-tips supporting a bowling-ball - Poor dog!

his knees still look cr*ppy, and he has a lick-habit on his hocks
that may indicate joint-pain there -- but his AFTER pic is so, so
much better! :thumbup1:

i find it difficult to believe that his OWNER was entirely ignorant that his dog was morbidly obese! that seems to fly in the face of reason. :frown2:
glad he is *banned* from owning pets... for 10-years, anyhow.

i have seen + trained with fat-Dals, but this sets a record!
hope that i never see anything like it, myself...

Nutrients vs. Ingredients

As in human nutrition, a body needs nutrients - from ingredients - like protein, fat and fibre to function. Ingredients are simply vehicles that deliver this mixture of nutrients to the body. When choosing the ingredients for pet food, it's the total nutrient balance of ingredients that's important.

Nutrient is a metabolically useful component of food, which may be essential or non-essential.

Some nutrients provide energy. Protein, fats and carbohydrates provide the body with fuel, just like petrol in a car. Different nutrients are needed in varying amounts per day. For example, both humans and animals require kilograms of water but only micrograms of certain vitamins.

My friend asked me to post this to see if anyone had any ideas.

He has a 7 year old king charles cavalier. He noticed that one of his teeth has gone completely black. The gums around the tooth are fine, still look nice and healthy. Its just the tooth thats changed colour. Do you think the tooth has just sort of died? It doesnt seem to be bothering the dog or causing any pain.

His problem is that he does not want to put the dog under anesthetic to get it pulled out as the dog doesnt do well on any form of medication. wormers and flea treatments knock him sideways for a good few days after they have been applied. so he is obviously worried that the anesthetic could do worse.

is there any way that the tooth could be pulled without going down that route? his vet says he wont do it any other way. i would of thought even a mild sedation would of been ok?
or do you think it would be ok just to leave it be?

Hi Everyone

I have a 2 1/2 year old border collie. 5 months ago he had his first fit, then a few days later he clustered fitted. Our vet run all the necessary tests and we were told that Charlie has epilipsy. We are devastated. Charlie is on Epiphen and Potassium Bromide. However the longest Charlie has gone is 5 weeks seizure free, he his now only going every 2 weeks. Our vet has told us that it could be Charlie is not responding to the tablets. We changed his food to Burns and James Wellbeloved. Does anyone know which is the better one out of the two? Does anyone know of any herbal remedies we could try?

Hey guys,

Olivia has had a small sore in between one of her toes on one of her front legs. It's gotten bigger over the past few weeks and today big enough to pop - it popped easily enough whilst I was giving her feet a clean from being back from the park. A lot of bloody puss came out, and then just blood. I cleaned it up well and will apply some Savlon once I've been to the shop later.

I'm hoping this isn't a serious problem, seems to me as though she might have scratched it and then it got infected.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any home remedies to keep the small open wound (pin-sized puncture) clean?

Thanks

I have been feeding my Border Terrier boy Bosley on Autarky for the last month and cannot believe the difference in him. Coat is much better and he is really eating up when he used to be really fussy on the last food I used. Is this down to the herbs in it?

Also have managed to find it online at a really great price - 2 x 15kg bags for about £30 including P&P - really good to find something that works that doesn't cost the earth - especially in the current financial climate! If anyone else uses it the link is:
I wormed both of my labs this morning and gave them just a 5th of normal food and then fed them the rest about 5pm this evening. One of them has just been sick at about 9pm. There was alot of it but it was mostly mushy food.
