Hi,
I have been thinking about starting my dog walking business. At the moment I wank 3 dogs a day and do this 4 times a week. The owners (all friends) seem very pleased with my service and so thought I may manage a few more so I am thinking I could branch out and offer my services to more folk as there doesn't seem to be anyone else in the area prepared to do this.

What are others experience of this kind of thing and how much do you expect to pay? Obviously I clear up the mess afterwards as well.

Has anyone heard of this or had any experience?
Bella was abandoned with her litter mates so I haven't a clue what breed mixes she is, but as most 'mutt' owners would understand I am always wondering what breeds she is made up of, it would certainly be very interesting...

We have a 4 year old collie X and he has alot of energy in him at times. We started doing agility but gets really stressed out with other dogs and it is not really fair to keep him going with it, so we are now going to hire out the arena at our club every couple of weeks so we can have a relaxed session. We have started clicker training and he seems to love it and gets really excited by it. But I want to start doing more with him which he will enjoy and wont get stressed out with. He has had such a hard time in the past and I dont want to make it any worse for him. Any ideas of what we could do ?

We bumped into him again today. The first time there was no confrontation, he brought three greyhounds, one of them quite young into one of our favourite parks and let them off leash.

The young one and Shadow have taken quite a shine to each other and they start to chase each other around the park harmlessly taking it in turns to run. It's rare to see as usually Shadow either sniffs and leaves or gets mounted by the other dog, has a quick scuffle (no teeth) and then comes on my call.

Our first encounter, the owner threw a tennis ball in our direction. Shadow went straight into chase mode and ignoring my calls grabbed it. On his return, one of the larger greyhounds then attacked him and took the ball back. Shadow came running towards me with no ball but some blood from a bite on his neck.

Dogs will be dogs, and we had to leave the park to give them space as his ball throwing over our heads kept Shadow interested. I hoped Shadow would become a little more weary.

Today, they came in again, no ball this time but the two puppies started chasing each other. The owner and the two larger dogs headed for the woods, the puppy in tow, and Shadow came back to play fetch. His pup then broke away and came running towards us, Shadow ran off and they started their game of chase again. They got close to the other dogs twice, and both times, that same dog attacked Shadow. I was calling Shadow, the other pups owner was calling his. Neither were responding.

As they approached him the third time, the guy shouted at me saying that if mine keeps chasing him, the bigger dog will protect her puppy.

I appreciate Shadow's recall isn't as good as it could be, and his pup's is likewise, but why make out that it's my fault his aggressive dog keeps attacking mine?

I was more concerned for Shadow than to retort but people like that make me angry. We're both as bad as each other with the little ones but to blame his other dog's aggression on me is enough to ruin an entire day!

If you're out there greyhound owner, I hate you! I'm working so hard to make sure Shadow is docile and doesn't stick up for himself after an issue between him and my wife the other week that it's almost tempting to bring this back out.

Hey there

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to help with moulting. Roxy hardly moulted when we got her but for the last month she has moulted LOADS! And it's so hard to get her hair off things cos it is short and quite wirey. I have a furminator which I use on her but it's not that amazing on her short hair (much better on my long haired cat lol). Do dogs have certain times of year when tey moult more?

I love my doggy but not the hundreds of short blonde hairs I find on EVERYTHING! :o

Any ideas for reducing moulting or clearing up the hair?

A xx

My sheepdog Daisy is 16 today!! :D

We rescued the poor little mite when she was 8 months old, guy pulled up in a van, opened the door and 6 sheepdogs got out and 2 st. bernards. He said she was 8 months old, told us the date she was born, showed us she could jump onto a 5ft wall when told 'jump' and said "here take her" got in the van and drove away!! Never to be seen again :001_huh:

So we took her in, she was terrified of people and other animals. She still follows my mum about everywere and wont go out for a wee unless my mum takes her out (we live on a farm) she got lost loads because she chases my mums car up the rd!

Some wierd people about though doing that, but wouldnt swap her for the world!

Out on my walk (well, wheel in my case) today with Ludo and my OH,wesaw a garman shephard, off lead, running around with no owner in sight. Unfortunately it was too fats for us to catch so we had to leave it today.

This exact same thing happened a couple of weeks ago, when we saw a beautiful white GSD, running around the campus of UEA, no owner atall. My OH chased it as it ran off campus and onto a road and managed to stop it being knocked over by cars and herded it back into the campus and alerted security. I'm assuming they caught it in the end but it's still perplexing :S

Anyone else had something similar happen? Next time I'm going to bring a spare lead methinks...

Dog Insurance 'Prexisting Illness'

Roo's insurance is going to be changed by the end of January (we're on a yearly policy at the moment and as I'm under 18 I can't have it in my name, so if we switch at the end of Jan I will be 18 and can do it in my name, and current policy will be nearly over).

Where it says 'pre existing illnesses' what do they entail..?

The vet thought Roo had an allergy and gave him a shot of steroids at the beginning of summer, as his ears were a bit inflamed and waxy. This happened randomly and ocasionally but it never really bothered Roo and soon went away so I just kept an eye on things.

His right ear got bad and some of you guys suggested I buy some Thornit. Have done so and his ears began to clear up before it came, but from reading into it I am pretty darned sure it was mites causing the inflamed ears and waxy spots, as normally his ears are very clean and only need a wipe once a week, they don't normally go waxy etc.

Anyway, would that class as a pre existing illness?! I wouldn't ever claim for it but I am wondering if I claim for something like hip dysplacia later on in his life, if they find out the vet thought he had an allergy or what I thought was mites, could they then say I lied and refuse to pay for the dysplacia?

I don't want to ring up yet as I'm still not sure which company to go with :o

Any advice more than welcome :thumbup1:

Thanks guys!

Fenris barges past me dashes straight for said bin , pushes off the lid and grabs a gobfull:eek::frown2:.............so there it is the 'Benny hill' chase round the garage , swift rugby tackle , my hand into his gob and try to fish out as much as I can :001_huh:.Now then swarf is like pencil shavings .....but coz it,s metal it,s like little razors !!
Phone call to vet at 8.30 ...........visit vets 8.40 ............an injection to make him sick , some medicine to help line his tummy and now it,s a fingers crossed thing !:confused5::shocked:

I am a 3rd year Mechatronics Engineer and for my dissertation I am doing a project on dog care. I was thinking of designing an electronic kennel that would look after the dog for a week without the owner being present. I was going to incorporate a heater, food, water and cleaning facilities. To be able to put a heater into my design I need to know what is the ideal temperature that is required for a dog? Any other information that you could provide me with on the kennel and features that would be much appreciated.

What has happened to the good old mut?
The days of a cross breed pup free to a good home seem to have disapeared and have been replaced by a trend o ask silly money for a cross breed...up to 1500 I heard for one the other day!
Is it not more important to ensure the offspring get a good home with the right people rather than who can pay the most money for it??
Also what about insurance??? With a lot of "designer" crosses been badly bred and may inherit some horrific conditions do these owners insure them as a pedigree (as they like to call them a specific breed ie a jug, jackie-chi etc) or do they go for the crossbreed option which may result in pushing the price and premium up if lots of claims are made??
Going off on one here i know but am feeling bitter, had a puppy farmer in last week with a parvo outbreak, no money, sick puppies clasped in his nicotine stained fingers:mad:
Just think it should be stopped the selling of crossbreeds for profit...perhaps a token fee for the upkeep of the litter and the dam just to curb all the money hungry idiots who treat animals like dirt!
