Hello.

I have a 5 year old male cat.He was just recently neutered and has finally stopped spraying the house...the vet says he is dominant.Yesterday i saw the most darling kitten at the shelter(she's not the world's prettiest cat and for that reason has been there for quite a while).I fell in love with her and have begun considering adopting a new cat.Do you think that is a wise thing to do given our cat being dominant?Which sex combinations work best? Our cat LOVES to play and can never get enough...so i thought a companian might be good...but i must admit that he likes to play rough at times (i know, bad training on our part). The more i read about it the more confused i get!Do cats need or enjoy other cats around? Would he just be angry at us???Though i would love another cat around, our existing cat's happiness is more important. Our house is quite large with lots of space.
Could you please help???

Thank you

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to the forum (and pets), hope someone can help...

I have had my wee kitten for a week now and as the week has gone on she has become more confident and comfortable in my flat (which is good), however she has started to bite.

Chilli is generally very sweet and nice-natured but seems to randomly have periods when she wants to play rough and bite. So far, I have put her in her box for a couple of mins to let her calm down when she does it but I don't want her to associate her travel box with discipline otherwise she will reluctant to get in it when I need to take her to vets etc. Also she cries to get out and I'm a big softie...

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks

Ok I posted a thread about "cat repellent spray" but have had no replies - so sorry for the (almost) double post, I've been googling cat repellent and I'm interested in Tiger Poo - seems like a more natural way of doin things than some other examples I've found -
Anyone ever successfully halted a cat in their tracks with tiger poo or other products?

This is the problem highlighted in the other thread...
Hi Our kittens love going outside and spend lots of time in the hedge and field next door and the biggest things they've killed to my knowledge are moths and craneflies.

Unfortunately they now seem to have set their sights on slightly bigger prey - My neighbour lives in a flat opposite up a little concrete footpath with Lily the rabbit in a hutch on her front door area. She came home the other night to find one kitten on top of the hutch and the other trying to push his paw in through the gaps. Lily was hiding under her hutch trembling. I fear that if the cats had managed to get in she would have no defence (hiding under the hutch wouldn't be any good as they would easily both fit under there too) and while they are just 6 months old, between the two of them I wouldn't fancy the rabbit's chances - I've seen cats bring home wild rabbits twice their size before. I would be absolutely gutted if they were to kill my neighbours pet and even if the hutch is secure enough to keep em out I know that they must be causing Lily stress by stalking her.

My neighbour is being unbelievably nice about it considering, but when I said "I'll ask the Pet Forum about the spray" she was like "Yes, please do!"
So I want to know. I have never ever considered using it before, or researched it's use - but what about spray (tiger poo? is it true??!) or any other similar means of keeping them away?
If they wouldn't cross the beginning of the little footpath then Lily wold be safe from our kittens and also the other cats in the neighbourhood. Obviously as it's outside it would prob have to be reapplied after rain but even so.
Also does it work for dogs? as my dog scares the rabbit too. Though he's not such a problem as he is less likely to stalk the rabbit or be outside. Neither Lily's owner nor her next door neighbour have cats or dogs so to discourage all cats or dogs from going up their path would not be a problem at all.

Well has anyone ever tried any of these sprays or tiger poo?

And I'm sure its a silly question- but as poo goes, to people, does tiger poo stink?

After all if I got some not only would it be put at the side of two of my neighbours paths to their house, but I would consider putting some in a couple of other neighbours gardens to prevent our cats crapping in their gardens. But I guess there's not much point if it's stinky lol - "Here y'are Colin, I know you don't like the little kitty's pooing in your vegetable garden so have a huge great stinky tiger turd, that'll stop em!" lol

I have 2 7 month old kittys, a male and a female. The male can't wait to go out, he often goes out in the back garden ( a huge garden with very tall fences) but today he escaped as the terrible wind blew my normally sturdy back gate open. He ran into next doors garden. I know he will go out one day so how can I being myself to stop mothering him and 'saving' him?!
He ran quite erratically down the street so i'm scared he wont be safe when the time comes to let him out. My street is very quiet and rarely have cars coming down. Is it safe to just let him out?
I hope this thread makes sense!

I just got an 11 week old kitten a few days ago - she is the only animal I have. When I first got her, she would both pee and poo in the litter tray. Now, she still poos in the litter tray every time, but has not peed in it for a couple of days. She peed on the desk two days ago, in her bed which was on the bathroom floor yesterday, and in MY bed this morning! The only time she has gone in the litter tray was when I caught her about to go on the floor and moved her there!

There are two or three things that I think I could have done wrong:
When I first got her, I had the litter tray in the living room, but I moved it to the bathroom within one day. However, she doesn't go where the litter tray used to be.

Her first day here, she stepped in a little poop then stepped in the bed I bought for her. I wiped off the bed with a wet cloth, then put the bed on my desk until I could wash it properly. The next day, she peed on my desk near her bed. I then thought it was maybe because the bed smelled, so I put the bed near her litter tray so she would go in the litter tray, and that is when she went in the bed (it was right beside the litter tray)! Is the bed smelling a possible reason as to why she isn't peeing in the litter tray?

I don't think it's that she can't find the litter tray either, because I have a tiny one bedroom flat - everything is close together. I clean the litter tray out right away after she uses it.

So, my question - are any of the above reasons possible? If so, what should I do about them? Getting rid of her is not an option, but going outside of the litter tray is the worst habit she could have!

Also - how often is an 11 week old kitten supposed to go? As far as I can tell, she only pees and poos about once a day each.

Anyone know -

if it's detrimental to animals' health
if it works
if it's expensive
if it's a natural product
if it stinks
what brand is best
is there a product for dogs too
or anything else I might need to know about it!

thanks :)

I am posting this on behalf of a friend who needs some help with her kitten, so here is the story so far.

She has a ginger male kitten approx 14 wks old and he is a nightmare, he bites and scratches all of the time. I know kittens can bite but he does it with intent and doesn't stop at all.

I refuse to go around their house anymore as he just attacks as soon as you go through the door and he doesn't stop. They have tried everything, toys to entertain him, saying NO, tapping his nose, ignoring him, water spray. But he still attacks.

Is there anything they can do? I have two kittens myself and neither of them behave like this and so I am shocked at his behaviour.

Help!

Hi,

My best friends cat had a litter of kittens over a year ago and I adopted the cutest kitten.

He has been fine with my friends until recently, but now he hisses, growls, bites and claws at them constantly while they are in the house. We are now having to shut him away when they are around.

But he does not harbour this hate for anyone else and strangers having not met him before he is fine with also, it is just my two friends he seems to loath.

He is an indoor male cat who always gets lots of attention from everyone.

Has anyone ever had anything like this before? Or have any idea why he could be acting like this? and only with these two people?

Any advise much appreciated

Hi,

I recently adopted a kitten who is now 15 weeks (gismo). He has always been very excitable and playful; however he is very rough with this. This was fine until yesterday when I adopted a 9 week old kitten (bumble) for him to play with. The problem is not gismo being territorial as I expected, but with him being to over excited and always wanting to play. Bumble is trying to settle in and is the one that constantly hisses and growls and doesn’t seem to want to interact with gismo. I am worried that they will always be this way. Another thing that i find strange is they will eat and drink out of the same bowl without any worries!! Any ideas or tips would be really helpful and gratefully received.

Thanks, Stuart.

I recently took on a second kitten, a 14 week old little boy kitten called Jasper who is as friendly and bouncy a bundle of kitten as you could imagine. Lily, my original kitten, is now 5 months and after some initial growling they are now largely getting on. There's one thing - he likes to jump on her head. She'll be chilling out dozing and he'll launch at her, jumping up and down on her and biting her feet. They'll have a little scuffle that seems mostly good natured, no howling or screaming, then he'll scamper off and do it again 5 minutes later.

Since he arrived Lily has become a bit more reserved, not as cuddly and affectionate as she was before he got here, and I do wonder if being constantly jumped on is getting her down. Is there any way I can discourage him from harassing her quite as much? :)

Hiya,

We've now had Zelda for two months and two weeks. She's settled in so well and we've developed a good friendship. She's even started eating a few new things and has put on a decent amount of weight.

My problem is still with her and Aber, he just really doesn't like her. We've got to the point now where she appears to be scared of him, even though he's never attacked her (they sometimes swipe at each other but no full on fights). They both have full run of the house and go outside pretty much whenever they want as long as i'm there to let them in and out. They will live quite happily in the same space ignoring each other until their paths have to cross.

Aber will growl at her every time he sees her, when he hears her, when he thinks he hears her, when we pick him up and sometimes just because. I've taken him to the vet to make sure there's nothing else wrong with him (there was, his teeth but they have been sorted and he's had the all clear).

I was in the kitchen with Zel the other day and Aber came in, she backed up and put her paw in the air (looked like a defence thing) and he took this as her being aggressive and growled and swiped at her.

I've tried adding litter trays (Aber doesn't use his anyway, he always goes outside), tried moving where they are fed (they ate next to each other until about a week ago and now Zel won't go over there if he's there), i've tried feliway, i've tried ignoring Zel and giving all my attention to Aber, I feel like i've tried everything.

Does anyone have any advise, anything that might be able to help? The vet suggested a pet behaviourist if it carries on, does anyone have any experience with them? is it too soon for that do you think?

Sorry for the essay, I wouldn't have posted if I didn't think we had a problem, it seems to be getting worse.

Lola would not use the litter tray - she preferred to do it by the side of the litter tray on the ceramic tiles! We tried in vain to get her to do it outside...but no, she made a special trip indoors to do it! Why would'nt she do it outside?

No other suggestions from websites etc worked for us...or her!

Noticed one day a wet patch in some dry soil under the tree.....dry soil..maybe that was the answer?

I built a little shelter under the tree with a piece of chipboard balanced on top of some house bricks. I put some of the cat-poo in the soil under the shelter as a hint!
It worked!!! and from then on the shelter was known as the 'Poo-Palace' by the kids!

I have other shelters in the chicken pen for when it's wet - the hens love to make dust baths in it, but frequently they find they've had another visitor in there!!!

The 'Poo Palace' (patent pending) is now available in kit form at all good builders merchants!!! (ask for 6 house bricks and a bit of wood!)

Look out for it on Dragon's Den!!!!!!!!

We have a 1 year old who up until recently has been happy to poo in the litter tray alongside our 2 other cats.
However in the last month or so he has decided to poo in the corner of the kitchen.I dont know why .He likes to be outside to roam -& he has been allowed to do so.I have watched him look at the litter tray -but be unsure as to whether to go in.We have had no previous problems with him using the tray.

Its clearly some form of behavioural issue -any views on how we can stop it ?
