ViewsSiberian HuskyFrom Pet Encyclopedia
[edit] IntroductionThe Siberian Husky is a Spitz Type Dog which belongs in the Working Dog Group with other similar dogs such as the Alaskan Malamute and the Canadian Eskimo Dog.
[edit] Origin and HistoryThe Siberian Husky is a medium sized dog which origins date back many thousands of years and is considered one of the oldest breeds of dog ever, and of the Chukchi tribes of the east-Siberian peninsula. There is also evidence, however, that Siberian dogs were also imported from the Koryak and Kamchadal tribes.
[edit] AppearanceThe Appearance of the Siberian Husky is striking, and that of a wolf having a dramatic resemblance to its ancestor in particular the Grey or now known Timber wolf. This resemblance however, is only that a resemblance and it is considered no closer related to the wolf than any other breed. In fact it has been suggested that the Border Collie is genetically closer than the Siberian Husky. The Height of the Siberian Husky as measured from the withers for Breed standard is Male Height: 21 to 23.5 inches (53.5 to 60 cm) Weight: 45 to 60 lb (20.5 to 28 kg) Female Height: 20 to 22 in. (50.5 to 56 cm) Weight: 35 to 50 lb (15.5 to 23 kg)
