[edit] Introduction

The Olde Tyme Bulldogge is a dog bred back to what the Bulldog used to be and were first created by Clifford Derwent in the early 1970’s.

[edit] Origin and History

Clifford Derwent was an elected member of the Kennel Club and war veteran his dogs were known as ‘Regency Bulldogs’. Clifford Derwent made a bid for his dogs to become officially Kennel Club recognised however this proved unsuccessful, after a while he gave up. The Bulldogges Clifford Derwent bred were never sold despite being sought after and they now have sadly disappeared. Clifford Derwents efforts are recognised as the first attempt to redefine the Bulldog. Other breeders to follow Derwents efforts were Ken Mollett and Ray Mccormack, both breeders only using bull breeds that were registered with the Kennel Club, using Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bullmastiffs and Bull Terriers and only the healthiest Bulldogs. Each animal was carefully selected and every one that was used was the best available. Another breeder to follow them in their efforts is Steve Barnett who used dogs from some of these breeders, along with other breeds, as the foundation stock for his Dorset Bulldogs.

The Olde Tyme Bulldog to this date does not have any Kennel Club recognition - certain strains however do have their own breed clubs.

[edit] Appearance

A medium sized smooth coated dog with countenance. Large headed and thick boned, only to the point it does not impede vigor. Broad muzzled and short faced but not excessive as to interfere with breathing.

[edit] Temperament

Although fierce in appearance, dogs must possess a steady, loyal dependable nature, being bold without aggression, with the proud air of not having anything to prove.

[edit] Health

Olde Tyme Bulldogges can be prone to hip dysplasia.
