The Newfoundland dog breed is one of the large breed dogs. The dog is classed in the Working Dog Group.


[edit] Origin and History

The origins was about 1700's.

The breed was founded in Northeastern Canada. It's is believe that they are related to Mastiff type dogs The Newfoundland is a working water dog and was used to pull fishnets and heavy equipment.


[edit] Appearance

Newfoundlands have webbed feet and a water-resistant coat.

The male is heavier than the female, weighing in at 60-70kg and the female at 45-55kg. They can grow up to 22-30 inch's tall at the shoulder

The breed of the dogs tends to be in black and brown.

This dog is know for it's sweet nature, loyalty and natural ability to rescue from water. They are easy to train good guardians, watchdogs and good with children.

The breed is prone to several problems displasia to the hip and elbow and bladder stones. They tend to have a heart defect which can cause sudden death at an early age. They slobber continuous, which tends to be more of a problem for the owner rather than the dog.
