[edit] IntroductionThe Newfoundland dog breed is one of the large breed dogs. The dog is classed in the Working Dog Group.
[edit] Origin and HistoryThe origins was about 1700's. The breed was founded in Northeastern Canada. It's is believe that they are related to Mastiff type dogs The Newfoundland is a working water dog and was used to pull fishnets and heavy equipment.
[edit] AppearanceNewfoundlands have webbed feet and a water-resistant coat. The male is heavier than the female, weighing in at 60-70kg and the female at 45-55kg. They can grow up to 22-30 inch's tall at the shoulder The breed of the dogs tends to be in black and brown.
[edit] TemperamentThis dog is know for it's sweet nature, loyalty and natural ability to rescue from water. They are easy to train good guardians, watchdogs and good with children.
[edit] HealthThe breed is prone to several problems displasia to the hip and elbow and bladder stones. They tend to have a heart defect which can cause sudden death at an early age. They slobber continuous, which tends to be more of a problem for the owner rather than the dog.
