[edit] IntroductionThis dog is classed as a companion. It is one of the newest breeds in the dog world. The Kyi Leo is a small solid buit dog with long fur and a friendly face. [edit] Origin and HistoryThe origin of the dog is from the USA. It was founded around the 70's. The ancestors of the breed has been said to be that of crossing a Lhasa Apso and the Maltese. [edit] AppearanceFully grown the dog reaches 8-12 inches in height and 9-14 lbs in weight. As a newborn it can be possible for the pup to fit in the palm of your hand. The Kyi Leo has long and silky fur, which is most commonly black and white, But sometimes gold and white or variations of these colours. If look after correct the fur can grow to an long but nice length, never quite touching the floor. The Kyi Leo has a short tail, which curls up on it's back when excited. It has small well muscled legs, but can be damaged easily if dropped. Like most dogs the Kyi Leo has a good sense of smell and acute sense of hearing. The breed over all looks very similar to the Shih Tzu. Slipped patella and back pains is one of the most common problems as the dog is prone to been very giddy and excitable. The Kyi Leo has a thick coat and loves the cold due to this fact, So when i hot weather can become dehydrated very soon. Keeping the fur coat trimmed can help keep the dog cool. With the breed having a small fame and lots of fur it is very easy for the dog to become over weight. If you can fell it's rib cage then it's within it's size, but if you can't the dog needs to be place on a strict diet if not acted on quickly this can lead to other heath problems. The Kyi Leo is known for bad breath, So it is advised to brush the teeth regularly and regular visit to the vets. For a temporary relief you can use breath buster sweets and treats Diet The Kyi Leo reacts badly to human food and can cause vomiting and a tender abdomen and lead to pancreatitis as it stomach cannot handle it easy. One of the main foods it reacts to is meat. For a healthy life the dog needs plenty of protein food which will then give the dog more energy and a long life. Exercise The Kyi Leo needs plenty of exercise other wise if not interacted with it will just sleep and become very lazy. Even down to a good walk or a playful chase round the house or garden will keep the dog happy and healthy. Hearing The Kyi Leo reacts frantic to loud sounds and high pitch noise e.g smoke alarms, loud vibrating sounds too. Life The dog has a life expectancy of 12-14 years old.
