The Golden Retriever is a beautiful hunting dog used to retrieve game. They have an excellent temperament and are very much a people dog. Dogs for the Disabled and many more charities use Golden Retriever's because of their loyalty and temperament. They are absolutely lovely dogs

[edit] Origin and History

The Golden retriever is a relatively new breed. started in 1864 by Lord Tweedmouth. Bred from the now extinct Tweed water spaniel and several other breeds, thought to be the flat coat retriever and Irish setter. They were found to be excellent in the field and won their first field trial award in 1912 They were first shown at a Kennel club show in 1908 but were not recognised as a breed by the Kennel club until 1913.

Goldens should be well balanced dogs of medium size bitches usually approximately 20-22 inches at the shoulder, dogs a couple of inches taller. Coat colour can range from cream to dark golden. Coat can be flat or wavy with a dense water-resisting undercoat

    Elbow Dysplasia
    Eye tests
    Hip Dysplasia 

  All Goldens should be tested for all three of the above if required for breeding
