The Bullmastiff is a large and powerful breed of dog which belongs in the Working Dog Group.
[edit] Origin and History
The breed has been known since 1860 and is the result of crossing a Bulldog with an Old English Mastiff.
Known for its courage and bravery, the Bullmastiff was bred to capture and hold intruders without mauling them.
Commended for their guarding instincts, they were particularly favoured by gamekeepers for fending off poachers.
They became an officially recognised breed by the English Kennel Club in 1924.

A powerfull looking dog with a square head. Often the skull circumfrance is equal to the height of the dog from floor to top of shoulder.
Height often ranges from 24-27 inches and weight 90- 130lb.
The coat is short, hard and weather resistant. Colours can be any shade of brindle, fawn or red.

Loving, loyal and often docile.
They can be head strong so require firm handling and training. They also benefit from early socialisation.
They are particularly good with children and this combined with their natural instinct to protect makes them an invaluble member of any family.
