The British Utonagan is a new breed being created to resemble a Timber wolf, but with NO wolf content, Sadly although a wonderful concept some of these early breeders of the original dogs "the Utonagan" left little room to establish a healthy and diverse breed for the amount of popularity these beautiful dogs gained, there are not enough lines to enable the breed to grow. The British Utonagan is the foundation of a new breed using the backbone of the Utonagan, Northern Inuit and some of the founding breeds Husky, German Shepherd and Alaskan Malamute there by establishing healthy foundations for a breed that has a future. The British Utonagan is a new dog breed being creating in the UK and the creators hope to eventually apply for Kennel Club recognition for this new rare breed.

The Utonagans experienced been entirely produced in Englandby Edwina Harrison in 1987. They experienced been initially advertised as wolf hybrid by him. Edwina Harrison utilized 5 rescued canines or not known origin and additional German Shepherd, Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute to the list. The Utonagan culture further produced its lines by returning to share away from your conceptual breeder.

The Utonagan is a mix of three dogs-the Alaskan Malamute, German Shepherd, and Siberian Husky-that resembles a wolf. It is method to large sized and well-muscled.Males must be 25-33 inches tall and weigh 70-110 pounds. Females must be 24-29 inches tall and weigh 55-90 pounds. They possess a thick double coat, straight and slightly coarse to the touch. they are able to be silver gray, cream, or brown with dark overlay and wolf mask. The outer coat in the puppy is straight and slightly coarse on touching. The coat can be present in colours of silver grey, lotion or brown with dark overlay. one may find out Utonagan canines in all light and all black. The British Utonagan is a dog with a superb temperament towards humans; this in turn makes for a wonderful family dog and companion. They love the company of people plus they get along well with other family pets, they can however have a prey drive and when teenagers can sometimes suffer same sex dog aggresion if not trained correctly. They are boisterous in play, and bore easily. A very intelligent dog that does well in most activities. They do not like being on their own and should have company canine or human at all times.

The British Utonagan needs firm but fair handling and a good training regime when young, they can be quite destructive when bored or left alone, they are a very sensitive dog and react to their environment. Puppy classes are a must and good solid ground lines need to be put in place at an early age if all these things are adhered to the British Utonagan will be a loving and well trained pet.

They like all large breeds should never be over excercised when young until they have fully grown to ensure against damaging their bones, but once mature they excel in all activities, agility, obedience, rigging, scootering, showing.

The British Utonagan's coat is very easy to manage and will moult twice a year at this time they drop all of their soft undercoat and you can get a load of hair out of them, a trip to the groomers at this time is advisable if the dog lives indoors.

British Utonagan do well living indoors or outside, when kept outside they will produce a thick dense coat like the Malamute which keeps them very warm and dry, care should be taken in hot weather not to let them overheat.

The thick coat of Utonagan puppy is quick to manage. Brushing the coat twice a few days is adequate to sustain the puppy clean. However, the puppy calls for great curiosity all through the shedding period.
