The australian shepherd dog or better known as the Aussie is a wounderful dog to own. They are full of excitment and love that you get one and then can't be without them. They are so loyal and friendly that when you walk in the door the first thing you get are kisses. As a pastoral dog they have alot of energy and need a decent run everyday. You really need to have knowledge of the breed before keeping one. They want to be with you all the time and constantly think its play time. When they do lay still they hold their heads high and proud and are so majestic in appearance and movement that you fall in love at first sight.

They actually originate from america however native australian dogs were transported over there and bred with the american dogs and this is where the aussie was born.

There are 4 colours of the Aussie Blue merle, Red merle, Red tri and black tri.
They were previously docked and were often described as a border collie without a tail.
They have a medium/long length coat with a slight wave that should not be curly.

They love to please just as any dog. They have the "wiggle bum".
They should appear happy and may be reserved at first but will soon come round as with any dog they should never be aggressive.
The smile which most people confuse with a snarl but it is well known in the breed to see a typical aussie smile accompanied with the "wiggle bum"
