The American Bulldog dog breed is a working dog which was bred to protect property and catch livestock. It is classified in the Guardian Dog Group in the UKC. The breed is currently not recognised by the UK Kennel Club.

Many within the earliest bulldogs came to England and America with their masters. The English Bulldog was bred comfortably to a smaller size and provided a softer a personality, but the American range was still fierce and big by comparison. Just prior to and during WWII, the American edition was becoming extinct. This progress disappointed a guy by the title of John D. Johnson, so he gathered the best species he could find. He then proceeded to breed them. Many declare that John D. Johnson is solely accountable for preventing the American Bulldog from becoming extinct. American Bulldogs have many natural talents such as tracking, guarding, and weight-pulling. additionally make superb farm, working, hunting, and watchdogs. John.D. Johnson eventually found another gentleman that was also concerned using the prevention within the extinction with this breed, Allen Scott. They jointly went south to buy the Ol' Southern Whites,, the overall performance type, tall and leggy, while Johnson preferred the stouter type of American Bulldog, functioning breed using the curved legs, shorter and very muscled. American Bulldogs are powerful, strong athletic dogs. They have a lot of endurance and strength and demonstrate a muscular compact frame. The American bulldog should fall under the classification of the working dog group.

The coat colours of American Bulldogs are all white, variegated or up to 90% colour with brindle or red patches/spots. Red can be defined as any shade of red, tan or brown.

The American Bulldog is a loving and gentle family companion. They are fearless and will confront a human intruder or an angry bull. The essential characteristics of American Bulldogs are those which enable it to work as a cattle and hog catching dog, and a protector of personal property. To facilitate this task requires the American Bulldog to be powerful, confident and agile with large powerful jaws and a large head. American Bulldogs are independent and highly intelligent dogs, however they are always willing to please their master.

American bulldogs are good with children and are known for its love of children. The American bulldog is also very good with other pets, especially when raised together.

American Bulldogs are very good as a watch dog and a guard dog.

Regular grooming and teeth brushing is required for this breed. They'll get rid of heavily twice a year and are massive shedders.
