[edit] Introduction

The Alaska is a stunning jet black rabbit. They weigh around 6lbs, and are bred for their fantasic glossy coat.

[edit] Origin and History

Despite it's name, the Alaska originated in Germany. It was bred sometime around 1920, for it's amazing fur. It was one of the most important fur breeds.

[edit] Appearance

The Alaska is very compact and well rounded. They are well muscled, powerful looking rabbits. Often described as "cobby" in appearance, and with no visable neck. The head is broad, with well furred upright ears. The colour is a brilliant black, with a matt black under colour.

[edit] Behaviour

Alaskas are often described as strong willed. They can be sweet, but they will usually decide when it's time to play, or time to be stroked and prefer to do things on their own terms! They are fun and energetic, and usually an independant and intelligent breed. They are one of the less common breeds in the last few years due to low demand for fur, but are still popular as show rabbits.

[edit] Health and Care

Alaska are tough and generally a healthy breed. A good diet and lots of space will ensure a happy, healthy Alaska. They often reach ages of 6 or more.
