Also have a look at Business support, information and advice | Business Link there is lots of useful information on there about starting a business.

Once you register as self-employed, I think you can download the form from the HRMC website, they will send you a notification when you need to do your tax return. You can either do it on paper which has to be in by end of October or online by end of January.

Keep all your business receipts. If your turnover is fairly small you can just lump it all together, expenses against income. Beacuse I have another job I got a tax rebate because I made a loss on my own business. I work in Finance so I don't find it difficult, but a lot of people I know get an accountant to do their tax return and they do know all the things you can claim as tax deductable so are often worth the money because they save you money.
