Re: studying dog training

Is that all six modules combined?

I am doing the Compass one. Started a couple of months ago. It's quite heavy going, but interesting. The reading needed is phenomenal, but I am just about managing to fit it all in.

Re: studying dog training

I have finished 2 programs through ICS Canada. Dog obedience instructor, trainer and K-9 psychology. I found the psychology interesting and it really helps you understand how a dog thinks. I have also trained and competed in obedience and agility with the help of other instructors. There are 100's of ways to train your dog, I keep learning new things with every course and clinic I participate in. Fun too.

Re: studying dog training

the course i am doing involves loads of reading. i didnt and still dont pledge to think i know everything there is to know. but i thought i had a fairly good idea on dogs before. but it really opens your eyes. i think anyone who wants to buy a dog, should do something along these lines before rushing out and buying a dog. its so true if you watch your dog it has a lot to teach us. once you start the course there is always something new to learn . yes i am doing the six module. i am on bronze level at the moment. i started to do this for my dogs. but thinking of doing this now, for a living. if i can help others comunicate with their dogs better , then i will be extreamly happy that there is another pouch secured in a loving home.to many dogs are given up , because people dont take the time to teach them, obviously aswel as not giving them the time etc they desirve. they are not stupid! for from it. its some of the owners that need a check up from the neck up if you ask me.

Re: studying dog training

Hi. Iv recently stopped studying. Iv just graduated and I have a BSc in animal behaviour and training. Three years of essays is a lot of hard work. I didnt know there was shorter courses I could have taken. oh well. too late for that now.

Re: studying dog training

Hi
this is something i am interested in getting into - i have registered with the Kennel Club on their accredited instructor scheme. They send you a fuill outline of what you need to learn (though they are not modules) and inlcude an assessment of prior learning. I am reading around the subject, guided by the information from the KC.

In terms of courses I have opted to do Canine Massage (which I in early stages of) and dog grooming (just signed up for) - these will contribute to the overall accreditation and then I will do a formal course on Dog Training to round this off. I am hoping to move full time into the canine care world!

I am a Learning Consultant in the human world and have found that alot of the qualifications and experience i have through this contributes to the accreditation - a big part of training dogs is actually training their owners to be able to train their own dogs if that makes sense!

I would love to hear from anyone with similar interests, going through the same things - please IM me if you woudl like to chat!
