Re: Help!!!!

I know this is a sensitive subject and will probably get flack but here goes.
You need a PINCH collar, not a haltie, not a bottle of rocks. Look up the proper use of one on youtube...When fitted and used correctly it is not only humane but very affective....almost 100% everyone on these message boards, with dogs showing aggression issues have missed ALL the signs as these dogs were maturing, now you have to play catch up....like boot camp for unruly teens....dogs learn by action, reaction, if they get a pleasing reaction they will do it again.....bad reaction....less likely to repeat it. a bad reaction to a dog is discomfort, each dog varies on how much force is needed to get the point across. You will know what is enough, because the behavior will stop.

Re: Help!!!!

I've got to disagree with you kitty. Using something that can seriously hurt an animal if used incorrectly shouldn't be used by someone who hasn't had lots of training using it.

Keep using the long line on the dog, it can have some freedom. Somehow you have to make yourself more exciting to be with than anything that the dog will run after - now thats the difficult bit.

Re: Help!!!!

Look them up on google, pinch collar and then click onto images ... they don't look nice, to me you might as well stick the dog with a fork in it's neck, it's like a slip chain but with pointy barb things on the inside of it so when the chain tightens the points or whatever they are dig in around the dogs neck causing it at least discomfort if not a lot worse.

Re: Help!!!!

Jeez Look at the length and position of those prongs. Wonder if anyone who has used one of these contraptions have tried it themselves and let people pull it on their neck

Post Re: Help!!!!

I know I have having problems with Zeus, but there is no-way I would use one of those on him! And looking at the size of those prongs, they shouldn't be allowed to sell them
Has anyone used the water spray thing, where it blasts water in the dogs face if he/she barks etc?

This morning I have been using the bottle, with pasta in, and everytime Zeus goes to the fence to bark, I shake it and tell him to 'leave it'.......NOW one other problem I have, the trainers who I got in contact with, have contacted a friend of theirs, who is a dog trainer/instructor for Staffordshire police, and he has emailed me, to ring him, as he is interested in Zeus, now I hate messing people about, so what on earth do I say to him Argghh!! I always get myself into bad situations, lol.

Re: Help!!!!

Being consistant is the best training method. When you shook the bottle and said leave it did the dog stop barking? And when the dog had stopped did you praise them?

If you chop and change training methods then the dog will get confused and you won't get anywhere. Basically pick one thing that you don't like them doing such as barking at the fence and concentrate on getting them to stop doing it until you either just need the voice command to stop them or they don't display the unwanted behaviour. The rattle bottle shouldn't be used for the problems with recalls though. My dog has a problem with othe dogs. She doesn't chase them she tries to run away from them as in her head I think she thinks they are going to hurt her as she was attacked. It's taken a lot of time and patience from me to get her to allow 1 dog to be friendly with her without Katie being worried about the other dog. Let me have a think about your problem with the recall today and perhaps I'll come up with something, anythings worth a try at the moment.

As for speaking to the guy who emailed you find out what they guy has got to say first, don't agree to anything until you've had a good think about it.

Just be honest and tell him how you feel and that ideally you want to keep him but are struggling, if he doesn't understand then you don't want your dog going to him anyway.
