Question Attention Seeking Behaviour

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I have a 7 month old pitbull/amstaff mix, and she is both of our first dog. Recently we have been having some issues with her. She is housebroken, but in the last couple of months has started peeing when no one is paying attention to her.

It started one night when she was kicked off the bed, she then went and peed in her own bed. This is what happened the next couple of times as well. Lately, everytime I put her in her kennel she pees as soon as I put her in there. However she does not do this when my boyfriend puts her in her kennel. If I put her in her kennel less than an hour after she goes out she will still pee. Last week I was out and my boyfriend was doing homework and she wanted to play. When he didn't play with her she peed on the floor. I didn't think that dogs did that sort of thing out of spite but thats the only reason I can think of for her to be doing this.

What are we supposed to do? We have tried putting her directly outside as the vet recommended, and we have tried scolding her. Neither of them have an effect. Has anyone else had this problem?

HELP!!

Sarah

Re: Attention Seeking Behaviour

Ignore it.
Make sure you give her heaps and heaps of praise when she wees when you want her to.
I think she will grow out of it once she realises she gets absolutely NO attention from it whatsoever- even negative attention is what she is looking for.

Also how much time do you and/or your partner put aside for playing/training with her?

Re: Attention Seeking Behaviour

Generally she's in her crate while we're in class, which is around 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and then my boyfriend takes her for an hour long walk. After supper we spend a lot of time with her - either cuddling, playing, or working on her commands.

When she pees in her crate do I just leave her in there? And if so, for how long? What about when she pees on the floor? I heard that its bad for them to see you cleaning it up. I'm not sure if thats true or not.

Thanks so much for your help!
Sarah
