Question little dog syndrome

i really hope you can all help me.

i have a rescue shihtzu of aproximately 5 years old.

he came from a single mum with children.

he loves me, but hates my fiance, alex - he will growl at him and has even bitten a couple of males in my family.

we are now scared he will have to go back - and may not be rehomed

we have had him almost 3 months now, and it is starting to get worse.

we now do not allow him on the sofa, or our bed.

he will look me in the eyes, but the moment he catches alex's eyes, he growls at him.

alex now feeds him and takes him for walks to try and bond, but it is not working...

can anyone recommend any methods, or books?

thank you

Re: little dog syndrome

I have known 3 males do this too , a guy i work with has a bitch and a dog and its the dog who is agressive , mailnly towards men , he just has to be carefull when people come to the house , but he knows his dog inside out and can tell by his body language who his likes and dislikes . It may just take time for him to trust your O/H but keep up what your doing and maybe he will see you O/H as more of a leader eventually , as for people coming to your house make sure he is on a lead and tell your visitors not to give him attenton or eye contact as eye contact is confrontational to a dog.Only when he is calm and happy with your visitors let him off but make sure the visitors still give no eye contact .
