Re: Desperately seeking help on every level

Ignore the yelping and whining and if you feel you want to comfort him, only go and do so when he's quiet. I know how hard it is as the crying sounds so pitiful doesn't it?! But try and be tough as it's worth it in the end.

Basil was a nightmare for three nights. I was trying to settle him in the kitchen but he wasn't having it and quite frankly neither was I, it was awful.

On the fourth day I put him in his crate every time he was sleepy so he got used to settling down in there. And that night we put his crate in our bedroom so he could see us. He still cried a bit but not as much and he settled much quicker when he knew he was close to us. He now sleeps in his crate on the landing - we moved it out of our room gradually when we knew he was sleeping in there quite happily. Don't know if you can try that and see what happens - where is Rolo sleeping at the moment?

Hey, don't know if your problems have been sorted, but if he's really small you could get him a small jacket to put on outside so he's not cold. And we've started doing this with our adult dog to stop her going mental at the postman, we've replaced one of her meals with a few kongs toys stuffed with food, (her dry food ration turned into mush with really runny gravy then popped in the freezer) you could give that to the pup when you want to go somewhere else in the house occassionaly so he learns that he doesn't have to miss you, and to be independant.
Just a thought. Also the crate thing is fantastic, our dogs grown as I said, but we still use the crate, it's a god send honestly.
