Harness

as mason is going to be huge, i brought him a harness, i thought its best to get him used to it as early as possible, but hes scared of it, i can put it on no problem but as soon as i clip the lead on it he wont walk.
any ideas how i can get him used to it?
hes a big dog already hes 19weeks old and as big as a collie but wider so hes not going to be as easy to handle in a few months time

Re: Harness

I do not use harnesses but have you tried putting it on him and leaving it on in the house. Maybe let him eat etc... with it on so he gets used to it

Haha Stubborn dog. Mmmm Could you try putting his collar and lead on, also keep harness on and walk him like that then try alternating between collar lead and harness lead. Thats sounds confusing Sorry maybe someone will be able to help you out better with sensible suggestions

Re: Harness

I had this problem with my mastiff ,not with a harness tho on a collar she would sit and not budge ,we got her walking eventuallyseemed like forever by holding the lead taking a few steps forward and making a huge fuss of her when she did move the few paces to us ,hope someone on here has a swifter solution for ubut this way did eventually pay off

Re: Harness

Hi. I'm kinda new to this dog thing myself, so I don't know if this will work. You could try holding a treat in front of him with his harness and lead on, he'll probably walk forward and then reward him and praise him. Do it over until he does it without the treat. Hope it works (:
