Hi,
My friends mum has just got a new puppy, he was took away from his parent at 4 weeks old(as she wasnt feeding) and was living with a family which never properly house trained him. His name is Buddy, he has just moved in with my friends mum and has had accidents all over the house, and doesnt seem to want to go outside. Apparantly they have never seen him go outside :S (I did try to refer them to this site but there interenet cuts out alot so I am acting on there behalf.)
Any ideas on how to train him to go in the correct place, they live in a flat which makes it even more difficult with another(older dog) living their.
Apparantly he was house trained although this looks as though he isnt, nor is he paper trained.

Also he is a typical puppy, whining at night, play biting with owners and other dog, although seems to be picking up commands quite quickly.

Can anyone help them with the house training bit(any advice more than welcome), also the biting and whining??

Nice puppy. Can I ask why it was removed from mum at 4weeks as it could still have been with her and weaned at that age?
Someone will probably be along to post re potty training as great advice on here. Perseverence is needed with training and consistancy

I agree with Clueless, I would take the puppy outside after a meal, after play, and on waking up. I wouldn't let the puppy back in until something has been achieved no matter how small a drop of wee, then lots of praise.

Clean the areas where he is toileting in the house really well so there is no scent. I used to soak a bit of wee onto newspaper put the paper where I wanted him to go, puppies tend to go back to the same spot. I wouldn't punish him for not toileting where you want him to but give him loads of praise when he toilets where you want him to.

Most puppies cry when left on their own it takes time for them to feel secure some settle faster than others. I left a light on when my dog was a puppy only for a few nights.

Nipping is what puppies do at 4 months he will be teething. I gave mine things to chew especially flannels and cut up (worn out) towel wet them through and put them in the freezer, he will love chewing on them as it will soothe his mouth.

Offer him a toy instead of your fingers and hand.

He will be just fine.

Apparantly he was took away because he was on solid food, mother dog refused to feed them anymore and the vet sed they could go to new homes aslong as they were eating solids.

OMG You must be joking, that bloody vet needs shot if they gave that advice. The whole process is weaning from mum onto solids and stay with mum to learn socialable skills, not as soon as they eating--GET RID

Well I only know wot i was told from my friend so, Im not positive..

Tell her never ever to go back to that vet. I can't believe that, what an incompetent idiot. Mum is still teaching the pups so much at that age, pups should stay with mum until at least 7 weeks old irrelevant of whether they are eating solids or not.

Been in contact with my friend and apparantly the story is the mum didnt feed them from birth and they were hand feed, then at 4 weeks old they were weaned but the mother started becoming aggresive towards them hense why they were rehomed.
They do not use that vet.

A very poor Breeder with a very poor excuse,if the bitch was agressive the breeder should have kept her away from the litter not rehomed at 4 weeks.Pups are still interacting and learning behaviour etc even with litter mates.
And the damn vet needs shooting!

With toilet training go right back to basics,take him out every hour,after play,mealtimes,sleeping etc,give lots of praise and reward when he goes outside.
Stay out there no matter how long it takes him to go.
If he has any accidents in the house clean the area with a Bio washing powder,ignore the what the puppy has done and put him outside.

Hi, my pup is 4mths, he is from dogs trust. It took 11 days to get him to go outside for the loo. I never told him off for mistakes and was there with a treat and hug when he did it right. I washed mis-haps with wash powder, as i was told at dogs trust. When tyson tries to nip my hands, i replace it with a toy, he forgets my hand. I also have a playpen with a plastic sheet in the bottom for the night, he has water,toys and he is feed there to make it a happy place. I had 4 nights of no sleep, so i put a teddy in it to, we have peaceful nights now. No chewed furniture, if he messes it a quick clean up. Hope it helps
