Arrow Re: who is this dude? a former sports-star...

short un-official bio -
*michael vick* WAS a multi-million-dollar football star, who gambled thousands of $$ on his dogs, and others dogs,
in dog-fights at his semi-rural home in VA.
one of the vivid memories of one of the ACOs (animal-control officers) who helped investigate the abuse and cruelty case, was the shredded-paint on the concrete pool edge - dogs who lost were thrown in the pool with shock-collars, and alternately shocked and struggled until they died by drowning.
the paint and the concrete were scored by their claws, desperately scrabbling for a grip.
other dogs were strangled; still others were shocked until they were in status epilecticus, and died of respiratory and circulatory collapse. some were burned... others drowned head-down in buckets, with shock-collars.
then the bodies were buried on the grounds.

there was a hot-walker (normally used for horses), treadmills, rape-racks for breeding,
drugs for hepping the dogs up, steroids, germicides, etc, for first-aid for the dogs.
there were dogs chained to buried car-axles, with rough 4-inch lumber slats as siding on cr*ppy dog-boxes, as shelter.
there were dogs in concrete-floored kennels with cyclone-fence separating the dog-runs, with weeks of feces on the floor.
there was a breeding-bitch with every tooth in her head removed by a vet, presumably paid by *vick*, to ensure she could not object to her chosen stud, or any handling of her or her pups.
(i for one hope that vet never has a restful night of sleep in their sorry life, with nightmares to torment them
until the day they die - and if there is a terrible afterlife, i hope they suffer the torments of *vicks* dogs,
over and over, endlessly. )
there were dogs with un-treated injuries that had healed as best they could; there were dogs with horrific scars on scars.

drug-runners, gamblers, hootch-cookers, moonshine-sellers, and other low-lifes and high-rollers
all came to the dog-fights to make money, make sales, and bet.

*vick* went to jail, and got out early, cuz he was so well-behaved; he has YET to express any genuine remorse whatever,
over what he did to the dogs. he has made some canned statements, saying that kids *should not do what he did*,
without specifying whether that was his illegal and cruel acts, or simply not to get caught...

sadly, he is also now a player for the Phila. Eagles football-team. they should be ashamed...
he started out as a rough kid in a rough town, made good with his athleticism, and ruined his own life.
he made the lives of many dogs living H***s, which i frankly think they were happy to leave, even by death.
but the MANNER of their dying was often even more horrific than their pathetic lives.
JMO,
--- terry

Vick's not an animal. Animals do not do such things. Animals are innocent. He is evil and sick and everyone who worships him is tarred with the same brush. He is disgusting, a disgusting excrescence of a human being.

Re: appalling bad-taste: Vick aka Dog-killer gets an award?!

Outrageous. I'd never heard of this guy until now but am truly shocked.

Normally I'd say this award is to do with his "career" and only that but given that the press release specifically says...

Quote:
...commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage...
I'm flabberghasted.

Cool Re: appalling bad-taste: Vick aka Dog-killer gets an award?!

Famous people seem to get away with anything as long as it was not to do with interfering with children of course. They are shamed for a while then their sycophantic mates support them and they are helped straight back to the top 'because they are so talented' blah-de-blah. This is where some of his dogs ended up and boy! Did they have their work cut out! Best Friends Dogtown Season Two - Episode 1: Saving the Michael Vick Dogs

I hadnt heard about this, but he sounds as if he is truly a monster. Why a big football team like that would want to employ him is beyond me, you would think they didnt want people like that tainting their name. I will ask husband and son if they have heard of him as they both watch a bit of American Football.
