Re: puppy help needed please

This is called"den aggression"It is a simple reminder that she has control here, and will remain the dominent one...unless challenged for position. In this case...very unlikely.

It's unlikely a GSD will challenge a daschund?

Sounds like they are playing to me. Unless your GSD has his ears back and tail between his legs when she is chasing him I wouldn't interfere.

Re: puppy help needed please

if she hurts him he will welp. she will be playing with him, and teaching him the boundaries in the house. exactly what he can and cant get away with.
i have a ridgeback (candy) and just rought home my 8 week old rottweiler (kisskI). candy is doing the same things to kisski. its a learning curve for your puppy. try to let them be, but if he does welp, then just tell her ti calm.

Good idea, it's hard to judge if it's just play or not without seeing it for yourself. As an example this is just play YouTube - Jayjay & Quinn Playing

Re: puppy help needed please

I had the opposite problem when we got Zak. I had an 11yr old mini-wire (Muffin) who didn't want to play with a 6 month old big GSD puppy! I used to put Muffin in a cage when I left them alone. I just wanted to make sure that Muffin could get away from Zak when he needed to. After a few weeks they soon settled down. They will learn to get along don't worry. Tilly (terrierX) really aggravates Zak to death, but he is brilliant with her. He only ever shows his dominance when we is eating his chicken wings in the morning. She can bully him to leave his dried food, she barks at him & he walks off & leaves it. He only gives a low growl to her when he is eating the chicken & she stands near him, but she won't look at him or challenge him. She tries to throttle him while they are playing, she very often bites his lips & jowls. They very rarely get too rough though, it's all play.

Yeah ares a getting a bit OTT with each other sometimes now so we have two crates coming tomorrow so we can start working on keeping them apart when unsupervised. Trinny's already picked up a few little injuries from playing!

Re: puppy help needed please

i would just let them get on with it ur gsd will soon move out the way if she is starting to hurt him we just got a new collie and my jack russel is always growling at him when shes had enough of playing, he soon learnt to move out the way. lol now he knows if she shows her teeth then that means enough. im sure they will be fine eventually. x
