Re: Fetch the leash- starts with look-At the leash...

Clicker training is a fantastic way of training, it motivates the dog to think for themselves and be aware of what they're doing, rather than doing it because they've been forced/compelled too.

You can teach clicker training from a very early age as it's very easy and quick for pups to pick it up (crossover dogs do take longer) and as there's no force or pain it's perfcetly safe to use.

The old adage of not training your pup til 6 months was there because the techniques used were too barbaric to use on a puppy. Thankfully we've come a long way from that, though not quite far enough imo.

Did you attempt the 'take' with anything else before you tried the leash? I started off with a dumbell and clicked and treated when she took it and worked from there, just thinking if you use a neutral object there wouldn't be that emotional response and possible confusion about the lead. But then eventually you'll have to broach the lead I suppose!

Re: Clicker Training

I use clicker training with my setters. They seem to enjoy it, it makes them think and keeps them stimulated - plus you get results that are desired.

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy cheap clickers, because it is something that we lose regularly, so I could do with a few more in?

Re: Clicker Training

All mine are clicker trained, i usually teach new commands with the clicker then phase it out. I also use mine for speed training commands with Dalton, so he does commands as soon as i ask, as sometimes he is a tinker and thinks he can do them in his own time haha
This is Libby at 16 weeks play bowing, took her minutes to get this, but thats a BC for you, very clever little fluffy knickers she is
