Thumbs up USA-trainers good news: housefire + evac animals

hey, all -

a fellow pos-R trainer had a frightening experience on Mon the 23rd -
her house was filling with smoke, her hubby was in the barn settling the horses for the night,
and she had 3 Great Danes and a cat to get to safety - as well as herself!

thankfully, all the pets co-operated fully and immediately;
she did not even take time to grab leashes for the dogs, just called them to her, ran outside with Kitty in her arms,
tucked them + the cat into the tack-room of the barn, latched the door, and waited for the fire-trucks. ~ whew ~

it was a furnace-part malfunction, the temp had hit 600-degrees, so there will be the cost of repairs,
but no one was hurt, and damage was minimal.

Harline thinks (and i agree!) that her pets went along with the sudden exodus from a warm, lighted home
into a cold, snowy, dark outdoors late in the evening - definitely NOT something they had done before!, LOL -
because they trust her - if she wanted them to do this, then she had to have a good reason -
even if they had no idea what the heck that reason might be!

faith moves mountains, LOL - and dogs!

i am thankful that she and her family, plus their pets, are all safe -
and that their home was not destroyed, oh my heavens, in the winter!

please, never break Ur dogs faith - it may save their life. trust is precious!
a happy ending,
--- terry

Re: USA-trainers good news: housefire + evac animals

Wow she was lucky to get out in time! But unlucky for her home of course.

I think we underestimate our dogs sometimes - I am sure they would have known something was wrong, isn't that what dogs are so good at? - smelled the smoke and perhaps been quite happy to get out of the house. There are so many tales of dogs (and cats!) even waking their owners when smoke starts to build and saving lives in that way, they know something's not normal and most animals have an instinctive fear of fire.

I remember a Siamese cat from my first ever litter (in fact he was the firstborn) saved the life of someone once - he went to live with my old friend Alan, who lived with his elderly grandfather. One day grandfather collapsed in the house alone - and the cat brought him round by licking his face! So, no - I never underestimate what our wonderful creatures can do.

hey, sue! :--)

the dogs were not bothered -
Danes are supposedly the only breed that IDs their humans by sight, LOL,
not scent, so perhaps they did not notice the smoke odor!

i am just happy everybody went along with her abrupt decision, and no great harm done, thank Heaven.
cheers,
--- terry
